Pollard needs to just start shutting up. If he pulls this crap with Hoiberg, I'm not going to be happy.

How was the 8th official supposed to speed things up?

I thought adding an official was mainly because the refs themselves couldn't keep up with 7, which was leading to more blown calls?

Adding an eighth man makes placing the ball and being ready for the next play faster. Less time needed for the placing ref to get back into play position.

So why would we vote against an eighth official?

How was the 8th official supposed to speed things up?

IIRC, each Big 12 school had to pay something like $20k for the extra official, so I could see why ISU would vote against this.

I think the take away from reading between the lines is that Pollard thinks we get unfair officiating treatment because we didn't tow the company line with the rest of the conference related to adding an official.

Seems plausible, but could also just be coincidental.

Personally I'm glad Pollard said something. We've gotten hosed over so many times and I've always wished that our leadership would have stood up more and said something about it.

Pretty sure it was so the eighth official could get the ball spotted quicker and thus letting offenses speed up their tempo

Not sure exactly how it allow the game to be sped up, but remember there was a good bit of news about how it would allow fast tempo teams to do so.

The big 12 is a joke. They confirmed their incompetence when they removed the controversial call from their website. Good news is that all eyes are on them now. I also agree with the previous post, "Those with nothing to hide, hide nothing." Why wouldn't they explain the indisputable evidence if it is undesputable.

If I remember, the addition of an 8th official was to speed up the game.
Speeding things up would probably not be a benefit to ISU.

Correct. Adding an 8th official to speed up the process of spotting the ball between plays was put in by the Big XII to accommodate the teams that run the fast paced spread offenses. Not every team in the Big XII runs a fast paced spread offense... so it certainly seems like adding an 8th official directly benefits and gives an extra advantage to the fast paced spread teams while directly hurting those teams that do not run that style of offense (K-State, Iowa State, Kansas) How strange... the 3 northern teams from the old Big XII North division. Hmmm.... ??????

Wait hold up... We were against adding an eighth official and now they're targeting us for it? Can I just go back to not knowing what it was?

“Mr. Pollard’s public statements called into question the integrity and competence of game officials and the Conference’s officiating program,â€￾
This. Their own actions have done that.

Walt Anderson was pretty passionate about having the extra official if you go back and look at his comments. I could see where he would be mad at the lone school who voted against this.

Needs to start shutting up? This is the first time he's said something. Pulls this crap with Hoiberg? What the hell are you talking about? Do you know?

While "all eyes are on them now," it won't matter. I'm not even seeing this on ESPN yet. It won't become a bigger story than "ISU AD fined $25k" that's why the Big 12 statements was so brief. Issue the fine and let the matter evaporate.

Sure but this isn't nearly as bad as Pollard made it out to be.
