Cubs could get swept and still have the best winning percentage in baseball.
They would still have a 4 game lead in the division which would be still be the biggest division lead in baseball.
Yes given there is a lot of season left, but the fact that its May also speaks to how dominate the Cubs have been so far. Gaining a 7 game lead in less than two months over two playoff teams from a season ago is a somewhat amazing accomplishment.
You are complaining about them being on here again during a series between the two clubs?

This is more than about just one quarter of a season. The Cardinals have been losing ground since they were embarassed by Boston in the World Series a few years ago. We're trying to do what the Cubs are doing, but with less talent. This season was banked on young talent (Martinez, Wong, Grichuk, Piscotty). Some of the young guys have been great (Diaz and Piscotty). The others haven't stepped up to fill roles that are needed.
Everything is cyclical. The Cards have been on a winning cycle for many years. They're bound to have a few down years.
Cyclical is true for the Cards and I can take a few down years. The cubs on the other hand seem to be on a 108+ year cycle. haha.
Lol. This is just grossly wrong. We had the best record in the majors last year, but yeah, we've sure been "losing ground." If it weren't for an unfortunately timed injury to Yadi and some small mistakes by young pitchers, we could've won the NLDS last year and who knows what would've happened against the Mets.
Keep in mind Jhonny Peralta hasn't played a single inning in the majors yet this season, Alex Reyes just got off of his suspension in AAA, and two of our starting pitchers are coming off of injuries from last season. Waino has looked much better in May than April, as has Leake. If Wacha and CMart get back on track this is a 90-win team. Save the doom and gloom for another year.
It could be more the improvement of other teams (Pirates/Cubs), but it sure feels like to me that STL has not been keeping up since the WS loss to Boston. Yes they had the best record in the majors last year during the regular season, but they really struggled in the post season. Many factors have been at play, one of which has been injuries, as you said. Personally, I haven't felt like the Cardinals were an elite team for a few years. They have great stretches, but seem to falter when they play good teams. That's just my opinion, but is backed up with their record against winning teams this year (admittedly a small-ish sample size) Ultimately, i feel like they are slipping and don't want to see them fall behind the likes of CHI and PIT for several years. I have a tremendous amount of faith in Mozeliak to get the right team together to win.
Regarding Peralta: offense is not their problem. They are one of, if not the, best scoring offense in the NL. Pitching and defense have been the problem, obviously. There's a lot of season left and I believe the staff will improve (though I have serious concerns about Wacha). Hopefully Reyes can come up and set the world on fire, but that remains to be seen.
Pardon me sounding doom and gloom. I do think it will be tough for any team to catch the Cubs in the Central, but everything changes come October. Hopefully the Cardinals get to participate. Here's to hoping the pitching improves and the offense continues.
They won game one of the NLDS and nearly won another game (can't remember if it was game two or game three). And anyway, you're throwing out a 162 game sample size in favor of a four game sample size. I just can't understand the logic behind that.
Peralta is coming back Tuesday and apparently has been playing a lot of 3rd in the minors. Looks like we will have surplus of infielders. Who gets moved?
