Meh, I'm looking at this as an ISU fan. Be nice if he wouldn't have bailed on us twice now. Probably could be on to a better job now if he had not left for WSU or waited a year or two here.

Good for him if he wants to be a head coach. Just not gonna let people convince me SDSU is really a good school to be proud of losing our assistants to. Heck, their last head coach made less than TJ did as an asst.

i agree with most of this. I just don't think that anyone has to talk like its a bad job. He got screwed over by Iowa state and by UWM.

Like I said earlier, I'm not sad that the dramatics of the TJ supporters on here may go away. I think the fact that the new coaching staff won't be close personal friends with the powers that be on here isn't a terrible thing. Hell it was just a year ago when I was reading posts and articles and listening to podcasts telling me TJ was the only one to lead this program.

That is silly ... a HC job at most D1 schools (whether it is a P5 school or not) IS a better job than most P5 assistant jobs. Why do you think these assistants do the job? Certainly not for the money.

They are solidly mid-major BTW.
I'll explain this once again real quick.

high major: P5 plus big east

mid major: conferences that are capable of getting multiple schools in the dance like AAC, MVC, and A10

Low majors: conferences that are one bid leagues like SDSU.

Are you off your rocker? Almost every assistant worth a crap wants to be a head coach. There are only a handfull of decent jobs available each year and TJ got one of them. Almost every man who has his head on straight will take being his own boss over working for someone else if the pay is the same.

If your assistants never get promoted, your program probably sucks.

Nope, comfy on my rocker. Just disagree with those two points. Don't consider it a decent job or a promotion over his position at ISU. What I'm not gonna do is puff my chest out as an ISU fan and be proud we had an asst go to frickin SDSU. Go look at where KU asst coaches go.

There probably needs to be a 4th level considering how much better the Summit league on a yearly basis compared to a low major like the SWAC or MEAC.

Jail?

Of course this is a promotion. How many head coaches at low majors leave to become assistants at P5 schools? None.

I would agree.

High Major: P5 plus Big East
High Mid Major: Multi bid leagues
Low Mid Major: Single bid leagues with the extremely slim possibility of a second team
Low Major: SWAC NEC type conferences

I would put SDSU in the low mid major category.

Who knows, but had a feeling he was moving on after this year, even if it's SDSU. It was just as hard for CSP to have TJ around as it was disappointing for TJ when promises made didn't pan out.

No you weren't. You're insufferable.

I just don't get why everybody can't be appreciative of what they guy did at ISU, wish him best in future endeavors and then start looking forward what needs to happen next with Prohm's program.

Why kick the guy on his way out the door?

In the same conversation, the program existed before TJ came to Ames and it will exist after he is gone.

I don't understand the heat.

You know, you're certainly entitled to your own opinion on TJ's move here, but when you write words like "bailed on", etc., you really just come across as selfish, whiny and petulant. Not to mention that you also don't have your basic facts straight; TJ went to Washington, not WSU.

The idea (not just promulgated by you) that TJ needs to wait a couple of more years for better jobs is laughable, IMO. No one, I mean no one, has any idea what jobs are going to be open a year from now, much less two. SDSU is a solid, well-respected (and yes, mid-major) program. It's a great job for someone like TJ who is still under 40. Maybe he could have waited until Pitino either resigns under pressure or retires from Louisville and then go after that opening? Or, better yet, wait until Coach K retires from Duke? Give me a break.

Unfortunately, this board has a vocal minority of posters who behave like complete and spectacular a$$holes every time they read something they don't like.

If he waits one more year, there is a good chance that Missouri State would come open. That's a job with a brand new arena, Wal-Mart money, and in an area that is growing like crazy. Plus, you can get into the tournament without winning the league tournament in the Valley, you can't in the Summit.

A guy can wait and wait and wait and lots of things can happen. Less or equal pay for an opportunity that doesn't just automatically happen may not be that hard of a decision.

I think this is important to think about because I heard the FGCU Head Coach might leave to go to NC State as an assistant because the money is better.

Is there ANY chance other assistants from OTHER programs might have an interest?

Do some of you guys think head coaching jobs are like loaves of bread? You just get one when you want to?

While I don't agree with who you were responding to it is a reasonable opinion to think he could get a better job. Sure we don't know what is going to open up next year, but I'm sure there will be something at least comparable to this and odds are something better.

Wow. The last two have gone to FGCU and Tulsa. Hardly basketball powerhouses. This is great for TJ and good for ISU. Replacement hire is key.
