Just don't look at them as you eat them because you will be amazed at all of the tiny bugs and spiders that have taken up residence inside that berry. With all the rain we have had lately though, there are probably fewer hitchhikers than there normally would be.
You just soak them in water first.

GF picks a bunch from our tree, puts in a bucket for a while, skims off the bugs and bits.
Repeat a 2nd time to get a bit more cleaned up.
Makes mulberry muffins out of them.
