Getting rid of Barnes was stupid

Barnes at least benefited from the change.

Texas thought they were getting a proven up and comer in Smart, but what made his teams successful at VCU hasn't seemed to work down there.

Beard is an alum. If they shuck Shaka, Chris will surely be the first call. It would be similar to Hugs going home to WVU.

Wasn't Huggins born in Morgantown and played for West Virginia? We can probably come up with a better comparison.

Chris Beard is a UT alum and was a student assistant for the longhorns.
And went to HS in Texas.
He didn’t play college ball.
Not an exact comparison, but thats about as “home” as you can get these days for coaches.

Not that it would prevent a move, but I recall hearing that he has family reasons to be in Lubbock, which is part of the reason insta-bailed in UNLV to take the Texh job.

He's already "home" coaching in Texas. He's more Jamie Dixon than Bob Huggins.
