This would be the biggest reason why I also don’t want any further expansion. There was at least Miss and Alabama that claimed they should have been in the CFP last year too but had no business in it other than beating unranked SEC teams and 9-3 overall
Alabama did not deserve to be in the CFP last year, but they did beat eventual SEC Champion Georgia.

The whole thing stinks, but I would support a system that guarantees at least two Big XII teams. That keeps the Big XII and Iowa State in the conversation.

If the other teams from the B1G and the SEC get in that shouldn't, they should be easy wins for the teams from the other conferences when they play. It's one thing to say that Alabama and Mississippi didn't deserve to be in the CFP (they didn't), but it is another to line up and beat them in the CFP. Both would have been tough matchups (50-50 IMO) for Iowa State last year.

Back to the original point, Iowa State would have been in the 2020 and 2024 CFP with a 16 team field that reserves two spots for Big XII teams, and I can live with that!

Let's Go State!

Yeah, just get it over with. I’m down to just watching Iowa State anyways.
I understand this sentiment, but man, it would take a lot of enthusiasm out of me if we were in a second-class division. I understand we're likely never going to win a national championship, but I'd at least like a chance at a win or two in the big boy playoff. Beating NC State for a FBS-2 championship would be gross.

I did miss that, I was thinking that about Alabama and their bad losses but then also in reference to Mississippi for the most part.

Half the playoff field would automatically be SEC/Big10

Don't want to hear about this quite yet. You are correct with half the B1G and SEC right off the bat, but it would be more like 10 or 11. The rich just get f-richer. It's hard to root for.

This saga is like watching your favorite team get blown out in the conference championship game- you know they are going to lose so the only thing left is the final score. Once the SEC and B1G get the playoff whittled down to just those two conferences playing for the Natty- they will begin gutting the baggage from their own conferences.

I know the media touts how college football ratings are even more robust than before. I guess they haven't polled or tracked me. I used to watch morning to night college football. Not anymore. Refuse to watch any SEC or Big 10, just ISU and Big 12.
The SEC and B1G be damned. I agree.

AL and pretty much everyone in the SEC and B1G is the enemy. Sorry.
The song 'Sweet Home Alabama', just keeps it on the edge for me.

Love the song, don't like the south and the civil war, don't like the SEC. I think we need some more time.

I could agree with:
4 teams SEC minimum
4 teams Big10 minimum
3 teams Big 12 minimum
3 teams ACC minimum.

14 teams with mandatory conference minimum allotments.
Leave a spot for independent or other qualified school, after allotments are created, otherwise available per selection committee allotment.

It’s a start.

Sadly, Big 12 should be satisfied with 2 teams. ACC has more big brands than the Big 12 and I can see them fighting for 3. If the Big 12 doesn't fight and the ACC does, Big 10 and SEC could just agree with the ACC. That would not be good if the ACC gets 1 more than the Big 12. But I am good with fighting the Big 10 and SEC on this since we have given in everytime so far.

Funny you mention that. Not sure when Alabama added it to their pre-game routine. The song is from 1974, but the first time I remember hearing it as part of the pre-game ritual was at the 2005 Florida @ Alabama game. Gave me goose-bumps, as the CFB Holy Spirit was in BDS that day!

It was my first game in Tuscaloosa since the 1994 Georgia Game and the first game for my wife to see in Tuscaloosa. Oh My! It was a day. Started off rough, but when Alabama finally ran an offensive play it was over. Anyway, "Sweet Home Alabama" is played in pre-game now regularly. Just not sure when that started.

Hard to give certain spots to SEC or Big 10 teams, because they could then form a mini SEC or Big 10 tourney and if an upset occurred in that, it could get an undeserving SEC or Big 10 team in the playoff and then they will want the team that got upset in the tournament also.

I don't really understand why they are afraid of. Most years, the SEC for sure would probably get 4 teams in anyway. Not sure on the Big 10, probably 3 anyway. I just never agree with giving lower ranked teams free entry into a tournament.

The reality is that if you go back 20 or really any number of years, the break out of 4/4/2/2 is probably pretty much how it would have broken out based on the conference teams are currently in. Leaves 4 spots for other teams that deserve to be in.

So why the need for auto qualifying spots? Give the champions a spot, but if you don’t win your conference why would you get an automatic berth?

Way up there
Idk why people think the SEC and B1G can peacefully work together. The comments from Kirby Smart and Nick Saban on NIL are veiled shots at the B1g. The SEC is the far superior league on the field but the b1g teams have numbers on their side. The Michigan's and Penn St's of the world were only relevant for their brand before NIL, now they can compete bc they have the money to outspend SEC teams.
