This would be a terrible idea.

Students make hilton what it is. Especially for the big games, i'd rather have those full of students

I could see a major re-seating happen with little or no impact on the student sections. For instance, about the only thing that I think needs to be changed is to limit the amount of space given in the upper deck for students as it is only full for the biggest games (and maybe never this year). They already sell more student tickets than they have room for, so there probably already is a clause about "based on space available, first-come, first-served." Plus, scarcity (or a sense of scarcity) for the student section will tend to increase demand. Then, the back of the upper deck behind the basket could be sold to the public as season tickets.

I don't think there will be a re-seating of Hilton until at least one and probably both of the following happens:

1. Add ultra-premium seating. For instance, I could see them taking some of the inner concourse and changing it to suites (or at least boxes), perhaps only for the areas on either side of the half-court aisle (or in the area outside of Johnny's).
No reason to waste those seats on Chris and Jared! View attachment 62191

2. Un-grandfather non-donors. It seems that there are lots of folks with really good seats who have them because somebody decades ago gave them some very generous deal. The economics of college basketball have changed in ways that no one ever could have imagined. And it isn't like those folks (their children and grandchildren) haven't benefited
more than they ever expected.
May take a few years, but it is time to clear the chaff! View attachment 62191

But who has been grandfathered in? A couple of years ago, we had to double our donation to keep or balcony seats. We certainly weren't grandfathered into those seats.

I'm in section 213, row 3 and we had to increase our donation from $500 to $1000 a couple of years ago. We also had 3 cheaper seats in a corner section and were able to get slightly better seats this year, so demand was down.

I can understand some wanting to do a full reseat and I'll sort of understand it if they do. But I've had season tickets for 15 years through all of the good and the bad and I've slowly worked my way to where I sit. I would greatly miss the people we've sat near for 15 years.

Interesting. What did they do? Call you or send you an email saying that the donation level for your section was going up (giving you the option to give more or move to another section at your current donation level)? If so, that is essentially a re-seating, albeit a minor one.

I'm hoping to take advantage of a situation like that to move into an area that gets vacated by someone who doesn't ante up to keep the better seats.

I hear things like someone gave a donation a long time ago that entitled them to ongoing benefits. Nothing like that has been done in the last 10 years.

That is for JTS. People who donated to help build it got lifetime seats.

For the big games yes, but there is no denying there are a ton of empty seats in the balcony on the east side of Hilton for about 80% of the games. Butts in seats is still better than empty seats.

It would be nice to make a way for students to "turn" their tickets in if they knew before hand they could not make the game. That way they could be resold to someone who could use them.

Good idea, but I think enough student season tickets have been so that Hilton is oversold by at least 1000 for each game (with no one every being denied a seat in the student section). So, more than 1000 would have to "turn in" tickets before they could be "sure" that there were extras available for the public.

I sit three rows from the top.

There are always plenty of tickets unused by the general public.

Not trying to get too personal, but would some of you mind posting your yearly donation and the section/approx row you sit?

I’m a few years away from seriously considering season tickets. I’m curious what something like $500-1000/year gets you.

Both basketball and football if you got em.

I would love if the student section surrounded the court. That would be a very intimidating atmosphere.

That won't happe
Would help atmosphere but there is no way Jamie is moving students into the most expensive seats. Would be a very bad business move.

If we want to improve the student section, Cyclone Alley needs to do some serious research on what other top programs do. They don't just give great seats to students. They have great tradition and expectations.

Our student section is good, but not great this year, perhaps because there hasn't been any camping out or "high tension, buzzer-beater" games.

I wonder this as well. I think Allen Fieldhouse is 4,000 students. Maybe we could do more their model where they are sold as general admission and the rest that don’t get claimed before the game are sold to the public.

Shouldn't be too hard to look at a seating chart and do some math for the designated student sections. I am just lazy.

Same seats for me since the beginning of GMac.
We sat in the same area during the days of the mini-packs, and have had the same seats since they changed the corner balcony sections over to $99 season tickets. And to my knowledge, they still don't require a donation for them. We've donated for years because of football so someone else will need to back me up on that one...maybe @JP4CY ?

Cyclone Alley and the AD already spend too much time looking at what other programs do. Find another school that hasn't been to a Final Four since WWII that has a better student section than we do.

I would argue that all of Hilton has been good, but not great this year. Too many donors spent the last few minutes of yesterday's game chewing their nails instead of making noise.

Student attendance isn't even an overblown problem, it's a non-problem. For big games, all of Hilton is full. For smaller games there's open seats all over Hilton. There's still plenty of unused seats at those games for the public.

To the economics, from the AD's perspective, you want to create ticket scarcity in the market that will pay more for the tickets. That market is donors, not students. Plus you'd have to change the oversell calculus if you took a section away.

If it was my decision the seating would be as follows:

1. No assigned seats.
2. You sit in sections based on your donation level.
3. See #1 above. First come first serve in your donation section (this encourages people to get there early). No seat saving.

General complaint, but i dont understand why the only seats I ever see for sale on CF are generally the upper corners yet there are plenty of open seats in the lower level for many games. Do people here just have the worst seats or do the better seats just too lazy to sell them?

There are a ton of empty seats in all sections, you just see them more in the student section because students push forward.

****, i've gone to more than one conference game this season where there were multiple seats around me in the parquet. Even moreso in the upper deck where you'd likely take seats from.

I dont think there's really an issue of people not being able to get seats for the games students aren't filling it up. Plenty of opportunities for people to buy third party if necessary anyway.

I can’t get basketball tickets tried for 4 years
