Count me down as being a fan of Jack Trice. I actually went to a game at Kinnick last season for the first time and wasn't impressed. Sure, it was nice outside but it didn't live up to all the hype that I had heard over the years. I will grant you that the exterior brick and façade is cool looking, but that's about it. The bathrooms are small and the walkways/stairs to go up to your seats are narrow and fairly tight to maneuver through. The seats and rows are packed so close together that I felt like I was almost sitting on top of the person in front of me.

The actual game atmosphere wasn't any better than what you have at Trice and it only seemed marginally louder due to the end zones being enclosed. The student section was weak and anemic compared to what we have. I also wasn't that impressed with the content on their jumbotrons and the music selection was pretty 'meh' as well. I bought a soda at one of the concession stands and they don't even offer a lid for the cup. How do you not have lids? It wasn't a case of them running out, they plain just didn't have any. So then I had to navigate through the narrow aisles and uneven steps back up to my seat without spilling my lidless drink. Mind you I'm fairly buzzed at this point because that's the only way I can handle this many Hawk fans at once.

Don't even get me started on the lackluster tailgating, poor parking options and ridiculous traffic just to get back to the interstate so that I can get the hell out of that town. I'll pick JTS any day of the week over that place.

TL;DR version: Kinnick sucks balls.

You convinced me. It not as terrific as projected as ticket sales are dragging and a creampuff schedule will be played. Maybe they need to add lids to the cups and toilets and pump up their halftime show.

I like 90% of things about my fellow Cyclone Nation... I just wish there was more urgency and belief that ISU Football can achieve real accomplishments and not just upsets. This is a school of 34k students and a 61k seat stadium near a decent-sized population center 30 miles to the South with an extremely loyal fanbase. I'm not sure why that school has to settle in terms of dreams and aspirations or make excuses for everything.

It is all about recruiting. This school needs to have coaches who are super recruiters. For bball, Fed is a superstar. The football staff is improving.

Good point. I have just always liked the idea of getting the players on the west side to get them out of the sun and wind. This would allow that.

There is no sun when you play night games in November. And it makes little difference with 11 am kickoffs as well.

But it does make a difference with late afternoon games in November when the Cyclones are enjoying a little warmth from the sun and the visitors are shivering in the shade.

What are the working right now? I didn't realize they were starting before this season.

Can't remember that far back. Most recent memory is of a November Night Game played in freezing temperatures. Both sides shivering in the shade of night.

So are there going to be LED ribbons between the upper and lower levels now?

I just going to ask same question after watching Washington/Cleveland and seeing how much better it looks. Really hoping we do, it would complete the project

Have to agree with you on the NEZ. Hope that someday we can bowl it in and fix it so the tunnel will come out onto the field. Even if it is just a lower bowl with concrete GA seating, place for the band, and something to connect the east and west concourses.

I think that they will do it someday. Just bowl in the lower level in front of the Jacobson. Maybe go up a little higher on either side of the Jake. Might need a large retaining wall for each of the hillsides, as those hillsides could be built up to the back of the stands. Honestly, this likely wouldn't cost all that much. And they can have a tunnel/hole in the stands for the teams to run out of. All of a sudden, that entrance gets a lot better.

Google is your friend  http://www.cyclones.com/PhotoAlbum.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=10700&PALBID=7510

Edit: I'm glad you brought the old Hilton renovation up. After looking through the pictures again does anybody else think the new SEZ renderings look a lot alike the renderings for the Hilton renovations? Obviously they will scrap the practice facility but maybe there is still a plan on the long term horizon to renovate Hilton and dig up those old plans for the 2006 project! That would look amazing if they blended Hilton and JTS together like that!

I really think that if they somehow got a huge donation, the whole Hilton thing would move forward. I think that if the money were there, they would build that practice facility (and move VB and Gymnastics out west to Sukup). And they'd definitely do that concourse at Hilton and probably some sort of suites.

I'm pretty sure it's approval was on a BoR agenda at one point... Not sure what happened post that.

Post 361 of this thread has AllInForCy possibly working on this item. AllIn must have some tie to Daktronics. Said he was told on 7/31 about the JTS improvements and will report when there is something new.

I doubt that practice facility is built due to one reason...
