Iowa State has historically sucked at football, and in the past decade KSU looks like Alabama compared to ISU. That's the issue.

It's a lot harder to get rich people to pay for a ****** product than a good one.

End of story.

Explain why KU was able to build a tower 3x as big as ISU's current pressbox back in 2000 then... Pre-Mangino...

Basketball prominence? How the hell should I know? Their AD makes a hell of a lot more money than ISU does and in 2000 I would guess it was an enormous gap.

We built our suites between the decks. We are adding a club area between the decks in the SEZ. There is little need for a big tower. ISU just doesn't have the money and has better places to spend it. I guarantee you ISU will have a better chance of getting a donor to pony up if ISU wins 8 or 9 games some year.

And sometimes schools just get extremely luck like OSU did with Pickens. ISU hasn't gotten extremely lucky, that's hardly a fault of the entire fan base or school.

I like 90% of things about my fellow Cyclone Nation... I just wish there was more urgency and belief that ISU Football can achieve real accomplishments and not just upsets. This is a school of 34k students and a 61k seat stadium near a decent-sized population center 30 miles to the South with an extremely loyal fanbase. I'm not sure why that school has to settle in terms of dreams and aspirations or make excuses for everything.

Do you donate and buy a suite every year?

Why haven't you donated the ~$20 million or whatever it would cost? I guess you just like making excuses.

Clever. Luckily with new Big 12 money, this could happen without one person donating one large sum. I just don't see why people on here are so opposed to Jack Trice Stadium having more suites than Principal Park. Big projects like the South Endzone, a new Press/Suites tower, etc. are investments in the future, and shouldn't solely be based on what the demand is currently. I get that there is a risk, but this is the time (with current B12 contract) to take a leap of faith and shoot for something better to stay on par with fellow conference-mates and the rest of power-conference schools.

Have you been to JTS? 25 years ago it was a concrete mid major quality eyesore. We've upgraded nearly every part of the stadium, practice facilities are modern and attendance is great. The energy and excitement are there, we just need to put a winner on the field.

Do people not realize that all of this "new Big XII money" is already allocated to current projects/debt?

Who is against it? They are underway on a $60 million project right now. I'm sure if another $25 million donor stepped forward, Pollard wouldn't turn it down. As for the Big 12 money, that is already spoken for in the budgets for the foreseeable future.

Because design and engineering fields don't produce just as many shiny pennies as the rest...

On average? Sure. The median ISU alum is probably a lot better off. But we don't have as many outliers with 5, 6, or 7 figure donation budgets.

Continued growth in Ankeny and the north side of Des Moines will probably help with more corporate donors.

Actually, there was that $70 Million (iirc) gift from the Pioneer guy--that just went to the Agronomy department, instead of Athletics.

IMO, we have gotten pretty lucky with the Reiman's generous donation for the SEZ. We have actually come a long, long ways.

Just over 40 years ago ISU was playing football at Clyde Williams Field and played basketball in The Armory. Young people don't remember those days. I do since I attended games there long, long ago.

Be thankful for the great facilities we have and for the continuing improvements that are taking place.

ISU athletics is on a 30-40 year plan, but with the students we are turning out and the tech and ag majors that will be popular for the foreseeable future, we are well positioned to be this state's flagship university. All it takes is time for the old 1980's created tavern hawks to get old or die and for our 35,000 students to continue to graduate and live in the Midwest and raise cyclones. Winning will only speed this up. As long as the big XII can hold together and iowa loads up a home slate with Rutgers and Maryland we are well positioned. But it takes time. Contrast today with 1994 and extrapolate.

IMO, Iowa started their resurgence under Lute Olson. The Final Four team of 1980 got them a lot of bandwagon fans. And then came Hayden Fry.

ISU is really getting a foothold with the success of the basketball program under Hoiberg. If we can continue getting even better and then have a breakout season in football it will help immensely. Agree that we are positioning ourselves well for the future.

Is anyone else glad that basically our entire athletic department doesn't belong to one man (Pickens)?
Yeah it would be nice to have all the shiny stuff, but at that point they might as well be Pickens State University

These are the key points. Most stadiums have one concentrated area for private seating, hence the giant tower.

If you concentrated all of the suites, club, media and other VIP seating that JTS currently has into one space, it would be roughly a three-level tower, 80+ yards in length.

What? The money spends the same, whether its one donor or three thousand donors.

Is anybody else hoping that something happens to delay the construction so they can't replace the current endzone section and we get to keep our endzone seats for one more year? I know it is selfish and I don't really hope it happens, but it crosses my mind every once in a while.
