Re: Rashad Vaughn

Just saw him behind the bench. Was hoping he would be decked out in isu gear

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I wonder if pointing to Harrison Barnes would be a negative or a positive for UNC.

He couldn't really have done a lot worse with his talents and he fell to #7 in the draft, but that isn't all that bad. However, Barnes was projected to go #1. If he went to ISU and showcased his talent as a bigger part of the offense with more freedom, he couldn't have possibly gone lower and likely would have gone much higher.

For someone that is by all accounts at this point wants to be a one and done the benefit of going to a Duke or UNC is negated. Barnes was a pretty classy guy and seemed to be just as interested in being part of a team and everything that goes with it and didn't have the makeup to want to be "the man". I don't care if Vaughn wants to be one and done, come on down to Hilton and let's make that year a great one.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I've never heard Vaughn state that he wants to be one and done. Of course, most great players would but that doesn;t mean he'll be good enough to do it. Lots of highly ranked high schoolers are't quite as good as their billing.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

The way Rashad describes his game is very much what Fred love's to run so the transition would be really smooth to Play for ISU and Coach Hoiberg and staff. Williams is losing his swag. I would love to see Vaughn in a Cyclone Uniform.

Unfortunately false. He's got a great 2013 class (may add more) and two 5 stars verballed for 2014 and in on more.

Did he Skype you in front of Gary Thompson and the ISU pep band to tell you that he was a classy guy?

I'm not ashamed to say I looked at his "ask me a Q" thing on twitter - someone asked him if he would be one-n-done if he could. His answer: "yes, absolutely"

The ISU pep band wasn't at the announcement. I'm not sure how that got started or why it won't die.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Maybe you have some inside info, but this doesn't match the comments from Floyd & Roy at the time. Heinrich was more committed to Floyd than to ISU. Floyd pretty much knew that KH would be looking for a different school after he left.

Roy claims that Floyd called him and told him that he knew of a player (KH) that would be a good fit for his program. Roy hadn't been recruiting him and didn't even really know who he was. He decided to take a look based on Floyd's recommendation, liked what he saw, and made landing him a top priority.

Why would Floyd recommend his friend eustacy to coach at isu after leaving just to screw him over by pimping a top recruit to Kansas? I find this hard to believe.

I believe if I remember correctly, Tim Floyd was looking towards Roy Williams to help with persuading Michael Jordan to stay with the Bulls. I think this all came out in a book that was released a year or so ago.

It happened. Floyd even talks about doing it.

At least Vaughn got to see Roy get his arse kicked on their home floor. Helped dim down the crowd I'm sure.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Look at it from a top ten player's perspective: They know they can't get to the NBA or development league out of high school, and a lot of them know they won't be finishing college before they move up. Their college choice is often a resume enhancer, a choice of whose network you want to access the most. Where and how do you want to showcase your skills for those who will decide your status the next draft season. There are a handful of schools that can play that angle up and it isn't a tough sell.

We all kind of laughed when Harrison Barnes would go on talking about himself as a "brand" but that's the mindset of many one and dones.

You are correct, but the AHS pep band was there with the ISU Fight Song queued up. That is where it got started and why it is still referenced.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

The only advantage we have over UNC is that ISU is much closer to home, and playing for Fred Hoiberg over Roy Williams IMO.

Some players might not think playing for Fred would be better than Roy Williams, but for me it wouldn't even be close. Roy Williams is just a slimeball used car salesman type of guy IMO.

Agreed. The guy lands huge talent but doesn't get much out of it. Look at Paul Pierce, the guy is a stud in the NBA but didn't stand out under Roy at KU. Roy does not know how to optimize and showcase the pieces he has.
