Hung out with friends the other night and had another "just you wait for when you have kids" moment. They were talking about Halloween and how they were excited to hand out candy now that they have a house in a good neighborhood. They were surprised when we told them that most trick or treating is pretty much done by 7-7:30 in our experience. She works until 6-6:30 and he works until at least 5 an hour away. We are looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
It is supposed to be done at 9:00 in our neighborhood. We get kids from all over the neighborhood early and then about 8:00 the vans full of kids start arriving and they keep coming as long as you leave the light on and keep answering the door (and sometimes even after). I don't mind kids showing up in our relatively nice neighborhood when their neighborhood isn't conducive to trick-or-treating, but I draw the line when Mom, Dad and Grandma want us to give them candy as well.

Don't they know about trick-or-beering? ;)

haha the male in the relationship was against it until I told him that a growing number of people just put a fire pit in the driveway and sit there drinking while giving up candy.

Live on a dead end street segment with seven houses, no sidewalk and no street lights. Have one grade school kid and one newborn on the street. My over/under number of trick-or-treaters is one. Last year the under won again. I buy candy just in case and end up eating it all myself. I try to pick candy that goes well with wine.

Not exactly sure.

We did trick or beering when in college. All we got was a bunch of candy. Went to the women’s dorms dressed as Christmas trees. Was hoping someone wanted to check out the gifts but unfortunately no one did.

Dead end street with no lights? I think I would have probably avoided that one also in fear of being tortured and buried in the backyard myself.

I do give marrow bone treats to the two dogs on my block when the neighbors walk them past my house.

The evolution of neighborhoods is kind of interesting. Grew up in a neighborhood where there were tons of kids our age. My mom would count and would always have well over 100 kids. They are still there and it get down in the teens as we all went to college and moved away. Now there is starting to be the evolution in my age buying in that neighborhood and the numbers are slowly rising back up.

It's mostly the werewolves in Eloise Butler Wildfire Gardens down the street that scares the kids. Per the kids in the park who I heard talking about them this spring. They asked me if I wasn't afraid to go into the fenced garden.

My BFF had prostate cancer a couple years ago.....had surgery to remove the gland, plus many radiation treatments, as it had spread to the surrounding lymph glands too.

He has been suffering all kinds of ailments since, including shingles, headaches, passing of blood from both ends, and so on. His doctor believes his immune system was compromised (and weakened) by the radiation.

Now his PSA is elevated again, and will be undergoing all kinds of tests to determine whether or not the cancer has returned. He makes a fairly meager living, and is supporting both an ex-wife and a daughter who has 3 children by 2 different men and relies on him a great deal.

I worry for him. He is not defeated by any of it, at least openly. But everyone has a tipping point. The vixen and I have tried to give him all the support we can, but I'm afraid if he is diagnosed positive again, he'll sink into depression and then, who knows.

Any and all good thoughts and prayers (yeah, I know, not politically correct, but I am a Christian and I think it helps) would be appreciated. I know all my RTT family are a caring, wonderful bunch. :)

You both are doing a good thing. Positive social and psychological interaction most likely helps more than we know, and just the fact that he's not (yet) hiding anything is hopeful. Stay with him!

Maybe you did it wrong. You're supposed to put it in a box.

Truth. I've lived here since 1986. Seen the exact same thing here. Kids to very few kids to more and more kids again. Just not on my street so much, yet.

I did forget int he earlier post that the next door neighbors have a girl in HS. Easy to forget since they are total recluses and I never actually see them except for the dad when he is outside mowing.
