Well, Bruce was on here if that tells you anything. No AD should be on a teams message board, very unprofessional. He was a bad bad AD. I think he was so pessimistic that no one even wanted to quote him. Gene Smith loved spending money, problem was he didn't do a good job raising it here though. He caught backlash since he fired Johnny and Johnny wasn't happy. He had a small gag order they way he talked, I think that is why they gave him a job. So he wouldn't talk as much, but get him one on one at supper or drinks on Woah Nelly, he would let you know.
Yeah, there’s someone around here who claimed that Johnny stepped down voluntarily, that anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know what they’re talking about—but that’s not what Johnny told me himself. He really wanted to coach those guys as seniors.

Not exactly sure.

He publicly stated she stepped down, but privately would go off. He wanted to finish with that group at least.

The Van Diest clan up in Webster City has a few ISU grads don't know if they support athletics or ISU though.

Not to my knowledge

One of those daughters is right around my age, might not have had a chance, but wish I would have known her to at least take a shot. It would have made for a different life.

Oh, I must be thinking grandkids. A local lady’s grand daughter married one a few years back so I assumed wrong.

I would like to see an announcement that CMC has signed a extended contract with ISU. Makes me a little nervous nothing has happened on that front.

Edit: oops wrong thread.

No way JP wants to bother MC a week before the biggest game in school history to talk about his contract. It will be done shortly after the season ends. And I’m positive MC would tell JP to save the meeting until after the last game anyways.

Whoa. Bruce Van De Velde posted on CF? Like to defend his tenure at ISU? That's wild.

Yeah, he did. Mostly to troll during JP's early days when he was struggling getting his vision off the ground, as well as back when the major athletic programs weren't in the greatest of shape. Used to know what the username was too, as one of the former Mods let me in on that secret, but it's way too buried in my PMs anymore, and generally not worth my time. The less I think about Bruce, the better my life is.

He was an incredibly small and petty person. Not exactly what you'd want in that job.

If Bruce were still the AD a decade ago during realignment, I have absolutely no idea where we'd be right now. First, a big part of the reason why ISU was perceived as badly as it was at that time was because of BVDV's failings as the AD, and JP had only just begun repairing that damage. I know for certain BVDV would have never led us through that nightmare the way JP did, simply because BVDV isn't a leader. If BVDV had been the one to lead ISU through realignment, he was destructive enough to have destroyed the Big 12 on his own. There was no way he would have ever have been able to form a coalition with Kansas, K-State, and others to save the conference. and then ISU would have been left on the outside of the P5 looking in, never to regain our place.
