This was the first time I have heard an official put part of their success in controlling Covid to pure, dumb luck. Luck has come up in discussions I've had with friends about how well the Cyclones have controlled the virus. I'm not saying the mitigation measures Pollard and the athletic teams put in place didn't have a major impact to their success, but some of it is luck.

I might be the only person that listens to the coach's show (I'm not sure what that says about me, but it is much better now that they don't allow callers), but both Pollard and Campbell have been very careful to say that there is some luck and good fortune in their COVID success.

I thought it was super interesting to hear about how the PCR tests that the Big 12 use contribute to the success the conference has had and how the antigen tests that the Big 10 use can cause false negatives and therefore causing lots of problems with contact tracing.

JP's CEO style really comes through in interviews like this. You can tell how much he loves CMC's management style also.

Chris awesome podcast here just listened.

Jamie brought up Dennis Albaugh (maybe Iowa's richest man) in Ankeny. Supporters like him could help keep Campbell and crew in Ames a very long time.

Also, great point by Jamie that this is the best year to have this type of year. We will need more support for season tickets, cyclone gridiron members, and all of that, coming out of the backside of this pandemic. This year could be the catalyst that keeps ISU football a power for the immediate term, incredibly exciting times indeed!

Jamie Pollard as an AD is the total package and what you would want: fights for the coaches, understands the fans, is incredibly well respected around the league, tactful with the locals, and knows what needs to be done to make program changing moves - - - we have him to thank for the Sukup endzone club (and the sukups obviously), the construction of the beautiful SE endzone, and all of the new facilities that make our program first class.

Most of all, he gets Campbell what he needs, and doesn't approach anyone like they work for him. Wonderful man and so happy he is the fearless leader of Cyclone athletics.

Agree, nice list of what makes JP a great AD. Now if he could just keep that men's BB extension pen in the desk...

I thought his reference to Albaugh might have been recognition that a big Iowa State connection to him comes through CycloneFanatic.com. He also mentioned Jason L.

Perhaps he sees sites like this are a big part of the future of sports journalism. Pollard seemed to really enjoy talking about being C-Dub's first interview on his first radio show.

I still listen, I sort of miss Cyclone Jerry and Denny from Clear Lake.

I was at ISU when Jamie showed up, but I don't really recall any AD's before him. I'm always amazed that he's willing to give these interviews and talk so freely about things. It's gonna be a sad day when he's done at ISU (hopefully a decade or two from now)

Before him was Bruce van de velde (got fired from LA Tech). Before that gene smith the OSU AD.

Is Albaugh even an ISU fan because I thought he was a DMACC supporter but his son in law(s) are big ISU fans?

Harry Stine (Stine Seed) is the richest in Iowa and I dont even think it is close.

I know who they were. I was at ISU for the Larry Eustachy ordeal.

I just meant I don't recall Van De Velde going on the radio and talking about things. Or even being quoted in the newspaper. Other than the Larry stuff.

Well, Bruce was on here if that tells you anything. No AD should be on a teams message board, very unprofessional. He was a bad bad AD. I think he was so pessimistic that no one even wanted to quote him. Gene Smith loved spending money, problem was he didn't do a good job raising it here though. He caught backlash since he fired Johnny and Johnny wasn't happy. He had a small gag order they way he talked, I think that is why they gave him a job. So he wouldn't talk as much, but get him one on one at supper or drinks on Woah Nelly, he would let you know.

Whoa. Bruce Van De Velde posted on CF? Like to defend his tenure at ISU? That's wild.

A 35 million dollar shortfall due to Covid shocked me, but our budget is bigger than I thought. 127 million was the planned budget for this year. I was thinking more in the old 70 to 80 million dollar range. How far things have come.
