It just seems to me like that particular model is keeping the freezing line up around the Iowa Minnesota border longer than any other model. It has it up there most of the day Wednesday and Thursday with a good deal of precip during that time period. This would in theory fall in the form of sleet I have a feeling. It's too hard to tell what will happen at this point.

Thanks for the good news:jimlad:

Just watched the channel 13 news and as of now it seems like they are thinking we will see a lot of rain before the ice/snow moves in. What do the weather experts think, is there a chance the snow/ice moves in much quicker giving us more accumulation? All that rain/moisture would translate into a lot of snow it is turned over to snow quicker. I would rather have 2 feet of snow than all the ice they are talking about.

Does anyone know of any websites that can give you the forecast along a driving route? I feel like this is something that should exist, but I don't know where to find it.

This storm seems to be turning into a big pile of suck as it gets closer. I can handle snow and wind, but rain and freezing rain I want no part of. And as the storm gets closer, the freezing rain keeps moving north.

Sounds like if you're traveling east or south, not as bad.

I can drive in rain, just don't want to get stuck when it freezes.

It was on regular TV....I thought it was halerious....BUT then again...censorship is required here

We have kids as young as 10 coming on the site... so yes, it is. The site rules are pretty clear.

Cops , private snow plows and other various bad-***** use chains. They are legal when there is snow and ice on the roads. I have a pair, they turn a 2 wheel drive vehicle into a snow eating monster.

Cool... Just gave my prius snow fangs! :err: Now I'm just waiting for the damn things to get delivered so I can get out of work and on the road.

Enjoy the irony...

weather.com will give you a pathetic version of this along interstates... Luckily I'm on 80 from nyc to iowa, so it was pretty easy to check.

I was thinking that a better version would be a pretty nice little package to develop for a website. (someone would buy you out quickly if it worked well)

looks like temp is going to be key and the amount of cold air that's in the atmosphere.

Forecast for my hometown of Red Oak on Thursday is "heavy snow" and 33

Forecast for Ankeny on Thursday is "rain" and 33. Talk about confusing.

Latest update from Charlie Freese with Freese-Notis:

Track is still showing further west. 1 1/2 - 2 feet of snow in Central and Eastern Nebraska just west of Omaha. Omaha 10" of wet snow.

Sioux City 12" snow
Sioux Falls 16" snow
Alexandria MN 23" snow
Fargo 18" snow
Minneapolis 18" snow

Des Moines 2-4" snow
Cedar Rapids 2"

Central Iowa will see a lot of rain which could make travel hazardous if it turns icy depending on when the temp dips. The snow that comes is going to be heavy wet crap.

I like the snow, but not this crap.

Can someone with a lot of traveling experience tell me if this 18" is going to keep me from flying out of Minneapolis on Saturday. I know the storm will be over by then but it seems like 18" of snow will have a lingering effect on travel.

Snow is a lot easier to keep up on than ice for the airports, but 18" is a lot of snow to try and keep up with.

Exactly, it would be to weather radar sites what Google Maps/Mapquest was to Rand McNally. That would make money.
