My main concern is just that we are able to get dribble penetration when we play teams with good ball pressure by the opposing guards. That has been our main achilles heal the past 3 years imo. The rest of the offense running smoothing is all predicated on that.

Yeah, great win, but I'm really wanting to see us against a team with quicker guards and bigger posts. We ran roughshod over BHS, but things will get tough fast with our schedule.

Great start to the season, though.

Soo DG still can't hit the J? He's always been a pretty good defender... but I really want him to be able to shoot the ball.

the game tracker said attendance was over 12,700. Not bad for an exhibition... during HS Football playoffs... even!

Not butts in the seats, actual attendance wasn't much more than the womens game yesterday. I would say around 4,000.

I thought DG shot well and had good shot selection. 1-1 from the three. Didn't take many shots, think he hit a nice jumper at the top of the key and one other later in the game too.

On the contrary..... the very first play of the game, DG pump faked, dribbled up to the the freethrow line and hit a wide open J.

So we're using the Carver-Hawkeye method of reporting attendance now? A sad day...

Colvin was the treat for me tonight. Quick hands, great hustle, good defense. He can knock it down from the outside yet can drive the lane and shoot inside as well as dish it off. He's got great vision. I think this kids going to be a starter as a freshman.

Dendy looked okay, but rough to me. He muscled in some shots, but the other team really didn't play any serious defense. I think he's going to have trouble hitting shots when the lane is full of trees.

Christopershon looked pretty good. He's got some nice speed.

He hit a jumper and a 3. Looked good shooting it too.

So I got lied to then....:skeptical:

I don't know why, but DG has always been my favorite Cyclone. I would love him even more if he would shoot a lot more. I wonder if it's a confidence kind of thing...

Tell me this: Did you have a picture of a brain as your avatar yesterday? If not, then I know it wasn't you, if it was then I know it was you. :biglaugh:

I was very worried about our defense going into the game and although some of the things I was concerned about (poor rotations and post defense) were validated I came away with a much better idea of who our defensive stoppers will be. Without Haluska and to a lesser extent Peterson I was worried about who would guard the opposing teams best players. Christopherson should be this guy and really there is no reason he shouldn't be starting over Lucca. We need at least one defensive minded guy in the game and he is really the only one we have with that mindset.
I think this Brackins fella might be a good one.

Hmmm, you must be thinking of that other guy. I predicted a 49 point blowout.

(you know I'm messing with you, right?)

I havn't read many of the posts but here is my take...

Our defense needs to improve but that could have been due to getting out in front of people for the first time. I saw too many times where black hills state drove right by our defenders which shouldnt happen. Our defense is aggresive but needs to know when to back off or at least cut them off when they drive by.

It looks like the team as a whole improved in shooting the ball. I want to see the percentages because it seems like they made almost everything.

I think the starting line up they had tonight will stick for the whole season. Dendy looked good but there wasn't much on the other team with much size and athleticism. I think ham just looked more comfortable in the offense which is understandable.

Overall I am excited but I guess we have to see how they look when they play better competition.

It was him. I read the whole thread last night. He knows it was him, he's messing with you. It was good to see everyone getting involved tonight. Before the game started I thought lucca might lose his starting spot this year, and after watching the game i'm even more convinced. It's more like, christopherson will EARN a starting spot instead of lucca losing it. He'll play plenty of minutes, no question, but I don't think he brings as much to the table as christopherson. just my opinion

Five letters D E P T H. We finally have it, at least in the back court.
This. The depth will help on the defensive end. One guy gets in foul trouble, someone else with equal talent steps in. And nice comments by the coach about Bubu.

I thought it'd be a heck of a lot closer than 49 points based on previous solid ISU teams perfomances against not as good NAIA school's-but I sure as heck am happy to be wrong.

Good first game. The only thing that worried me all game was when Christopherson went down in the 2nd half...he appears to be fine though. Thank God college basketball is here!!!

Just off of what I saw tonight I'd say the rotation needs to be Garrett, Staiger, Gilstrap, Colvin, Buckley, Brackins, Hamilton, and Dendy. That would be a great 8 man rotation. Maybe a little dose of JVB and Boozer. But first impressions I'd say those 8 are our guys.

Everybody looks a lot more cut this year and they all look trim and strong. Buck and Lucca lost some weight and they look great. Buck looks a lot more confident out there and under control. Colvin is the most athletic PG and has the best lateral movement on defense but IMO he's still a year away.

Good, fun game tonight. They played way off the ball so we didn't get much dribble penetration so I'm curious to see how that will play out against better teams. I know we scored a ton of points but I didn't see a whole lot that blew me away. Just a solid win over a team that was absolutely physically overmatched.

Gilstrap was bigger than anybody they had and looked every bit of 6'7". Still a little awkward at times as you can tell he's learning the system and defense. Every physical tool you could hope for though.
