It would be the most Iowa State thing ever to lose out and then win the Big 12 Tournament somehow. 6-19 and get in; Prohm saves his job.
Or the tournament gets cancelled and ISU is still the reigning, defending champion a year from now :)

4 of those 7 losing seasons have been at Loyola......not exactly a basketball powerhouse before he came. And the "uptick" you speak of started in 2016-17. A year before their final four run. Most of these seniors today weren't even on campus. And since their final four year, Loyola is 59-28 and just schooled DeVries and Drake. Have they fallen off of the F4 season....yes. So did TTU and most who are not blue bloods. But it's not like he is stinking the place up.

He would more than likely recruit the midwest (chicago) as good or better than anyone on any list I've seen. And by looking at his career, what happened at Illinois State almost 15 years ago seems to be the outlier being bracketed by success at both Arkansas State and Loyola. So if he is considered a hard pass......so is T.J., DeVries and most of the other mid majors on peoples list.

moser is a hell of a coach, I don’t think he’s the right fit for Iowa state, but he’s a damn good coach, just that grinding missouri valley style , I don’t think it translates well..Levelle Moton at North Carolina central is really good too, but again I think he plays too slow to fit here

It's been a brutal season, but the fact that we are still living rent free with kusports.com's resident psychopath is still good for a laugh:

These last three days have been the best sports days of 2021 for me. As the world's biggest Iowa State hater, I am so proud of the Jayhawks for defeating the Cry-Clowns twice in crushing fashion. The win in Lawrence was a work of art, but the win in Ames was more satisfying, for two reasons:
1) After spending most of the first half giving ISU false hope of getting a victory, we then proceeded to rip their hearts out and show them to them the rest of the way.
2) As someone who lives in Iowa and has some neighbors and a brother-in-law who are Cry-Clown fans, I've got bragging rights on them in basketball until next winter!
Watching Iowa State stumble and bumble through this season gives me a deep sense of schadenfreude. I hope they lose the rest of their games and finish winless in Big 12 play.
ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK! SCREW ISU!"

If only Prohm had taken the Alabama job and we ended up with Oats. His teams at Alabama are a lot of fun to watch—-scored 115 points yesterday and lead the country in 3’s made. I’m not rehashing the Hoiberg years but you were never out of a game when you could nail 3’s at a high clip.

I hope the new coach can re-recruit Walker, Hunter, Hinson and Foster. Pretty good start. Maybe get a nice transfer big.

Agreed. All these people saying this is a 3-4 year rebuild are wrong. Unlike football, you can win in basketball with 3 or 4 good pieces. Doesn't take much, especially with the transfer market.

I'd take Oats in a heartbeat over TJ or DeVries. Any reason he would come to Ames? I know he went to college in Wisconsin, and was born there, so there are Midwest ties. I think Ames is definitely a better basketball town with better basketball fans than Bama. If I were Jamie, I'd roll out the red carpet and make my best offer. But I feel like Oats is just getting things started there and probably doesn't want to start over again, and he could be the next coach at Kentucky quite honestly.

People said that same thing about Tim Floyd when he was hired after Johnny's and frankly the entire Big 8's attitude of damn the torpedo's....full speed ahead approach to basketball.

We aren’t firing our coach and paying the next guy more. Alabama is going to give Oats a massive pay bump after this year since they are done paying Avery Johnson’s buyout from when he was fired. Whoever the next coach is, I just want them to do one thing well so Iowa State has an identity in the league.

Oats coached Clyburn in HS and is good friends with two former ISU assistants (Otzelberger and Charlie Henry who is on staff with him at Alabama). Plus CW did an awesome thing for his family a few years back and ISU fans stepped up to show support.

Who wouldn’t take Oats? He isn’t coming here. He’s got it rolling and they have a massive AD budget. Even if Oats left Bama he has positioned himself for a big time job.

As for him "literally" not having a winning record until the final four season is just not true. He went 24-13 in 14/15 and 18-14 in 16/17. And Williamson and Krutwig were not playing in 16-17 which I consider the beginning of the "uptick" considering they haven't had a losing season since. So to say todays five seniors are "linchpins" to the uptick is wrong. And even if they are......so what. That's five great years and 6 of the last 7. What....do we have to wait and see what his next class will do to see if he is qualified? The guy has a final four on his resume. Not an NAIA, or DII........an NCAA Tourney Final Four. So I would say that alone makes him just as capable as any name you have listed. Although I do like Craig Smith.
Winning “conference record”. Read my post.

Probably hasn't been there long enough to feel the favoritism toward the football program like Orr did at Michigan to move on, although Orr was also pretty marginal his last few years at Michigan which probably didn't help.

yes this i dont understand

cmc slowed things down and look what happened

steve and fred played way too fast at time, just my opinion, and once they got into the tourney where play slows way down the party is over quick

my vote is tj but moser would be one hell of a hire but id be afraid that it wouldnt work like past attempts at this type of hire, that is why tj is the safe hire, and i really wish we could have a team that could learn how to play fast and slow, kane knew how to do it, what an amazing man and pg he was i never knew how good we had it with him
