He is going to the highest bidder. If it's G league then it's G league. If it's Kentucky then it's Kentucky. I have no faith anymore
Recruiting certainly became less interesting to me. Before, it was about your staff, atmosphere, the whole experience, but now it just seems like highest bidder for the cream of the crop. Of course, that's probably naive, as a lot of this money has probably been floating around behind the scenes forever for top recruits. It's just more transparent now.

Agree with this. Remember how we had coaches that would say they could 'sell' Iowa State if they just got them on campus? And whether a packed, reputable environment at Hilton was such a perk in recruiting? Most of that seems less valuable now.

Yep, Look at Texas A@M's football recruiting class. They spent millions on that class. All NIL money. You really think that many kids wanted to go play for the Aggies all of the sudden? Just out of the blue they are beating Bama, Auburn, Florida, OU, Texas and everyone else? Nope. All NIL money. Leave it to them to figure out the NIL thing before everyone else.

Is it really that different? In basketball do we really expect to have a legit chance at the very top teir talent, just because they're in state?

I'm guessing it will have an effect on our ability to attract top 50ish type talent, but will probably hurt more with situations like Hunter right now.

I could be wrong but if I’m reading wasteds post correctly, he is alluding to the fact that all of the top 50 talent we’ve been linked to or that has been from the state of Iowa before was likely getting money previously to go to other schools like UNC, Kansas, etc so does it really change anything if the money is hush hush like it was or through NIL deals? Probably doesn’t change much from a top 50 talent standpoint.

Agree somewhat.
I think the dollars get bigger and reach further down the “star “ chain. Do not have to try to hide $500K, which I imagine can be tricky. All in the open now.
I suspect you may have to start paying as far down as 3 star kids.

Better coach and product at that time I would say yes to a legit chance. Could of been a whole different situation with hoiberg or otz as coach.
