Obviously highlight tapes show offense a lot more frequently, but watching the targets for 2023 makes me feel like a lot of the style this past year's team played was just how to be successful in the short term moreso than the forever plan. Not that I don't think a guy like Pence or Momcilovic won't be able to defend, but that there is an attempt to go after some more Hoiball-esque players in the future. Excited to see exactly who TJ can land.

Fully agree. I believe the vision of the staff is to be more up tempo, scoring and get Hilton rocking like under Hoiberg. It'll be Otz ball though where there'll be a commitment to Def. The wings and guards the staff are recruiting a long athletes that should translate to that well. More importantly

TJ showed last year he'll adjust to the talent he has and not force philosophy that isn't best for the team IMO.

Some good notes from the same event Momcilovic was at for Cam Christie as well. Hard to tell priority behind Momcilovic seeming to be top, but Christie would be a great guard add. This update notes he's added a couple inches to get to 6'5, closer in line with his brother Max being 6'6.

With all the 4th/5th year guys on next year's roster- I expect we'll have around 4 priority recruits in next falls recruiting class.

Offensive Players are more about natural talent. Defense is attitude, effort, plus physical talent making the tough plays that are the dirty work with less fanfare. Rest assured TJ will insist on Defensive Effort. I do not look for us to lose our defensive identity. Defense is what gave Kansas the National Championship. Pressure Defense. Opposing Offenses must be shut down.

Agreed. Once you have that culture in place I think it's a lot easier to get an offensive stud to play defense well enough (especially team defense like rotations) than it is to coach a guy into being a threat multiple ways with the ball in their hands.

As long as coach Green and Otz are on the Iowa State bench. We will be a strong defensive team..
We'll see how next season goes, but I wonder how long we have with Green on staff. If they prove this defense is legit next year, especially with a handful of new guys, and it's known that Kyle Green is the guy behind the defensive philosophy, then there should be plenty of opportunities for him to move up the coaching ladder, if he wants to.

I'm still shocked he wasn't a candidate at Illinois State.

It's all recruiting imo. You recruit culture and defense. TJ mentioned it many times that was what he was looking for last spring. Now, I suspect they'll be looking for some things to complement

You don't recruit culture. You recruit talent and look for guys to fit your scheme and culture.

Example: You want to be a defensive team like Tech. You recruit selfless, older, athletic and long men over 4/5 star swaddled boys.

Now you're just being semantical. "Looking" for guys that fit your culture is recruiting culture.

TJ said many times he was recruiting based on it. Your example is one of recruiting culture- selfless players that will play how you will ask them to.

In forty years, I can’t say I’ve ever said this before…but this kid’s actions immediately reminded me of a young Larry Bird.

Not saying he’s going to be that good, just that he often moves eerily the same way.

His game reminds me of Doug McDermott’s.

I hate player comparisons but the kid has Georges' skills.

He makes shooting the ball look so damn easy. He's just smooth out there, really calm. The turnaround one-legged fadeaway is so pretty and I swear, he barely ever even hits the rim on his shots. He's gonna be special somewhere and I really hope it's Iowa State.
