Not defending Jantz. But the problem is A LOT DEEPER than Jantz. A new QB doesn't solve a fundamental problem with this offense.

Who does the OC have to work with? A field general who generally just drops the ball with no contact.

You think the offense is structured to contain the errors of Jantz? I do. We'll just keep putting the blame on Herman and Mess though because it allows the Jantz aura to remain bright.

Steele made some bad decisions, but the offensive line was hanging him and our RB's out to dry all night. Our OL got badly dominated by Tech all night. Combine that with the fact that they got their run and short pass game going in the 2nd half, and got some lucky bounces all game(Fumble forced on Doege recovered by lineman, RB fumbled and it bounced directly back into his hands, Brun fumble after getting drilled), and you have a 24-13 loss. We need better OL protection for Steele, and better blocks for opening up the run game. Our offense is predicated on using the run game to open up the passing game, and we didn't do that tonight. If Steele isn't running for his life he doesn't drop that last ball in the first place, although I agree he should have better ball security than that.

Barnett is a better runner, and can run the zone read better, but his arm strength is much worse. Don't forget that Barnett was also turnover prone and ineffective against the powerhouse defense of Western Illinois. I'd like an upgrade on what we have, but it's just not there right now. The backup is always the most popular person the team...

I understand that Jantz might be the best we have...but I'd still like for that to be proven in a game situation. Especially when Jantz looked as bad as he did tonight. JB may not be great, but he was the spark we needed a season ago. If they are worse, then I'm on board for keeping Jantz at starter, but prove the others can't do it first.

For those who defend Steele here is a statistic for you.

16 TD 15 INT's

Steele Jantz Stats, News, Videos, Pictures, Bio - Iowa State Cyclones - ESPN

There is a difference in defending him, and realizing there are some other major problems with the offense. The answer to everyting is not bench Steele. Maybe somebody should block someone, or maybe a receiver could get some seperation. Peyton Manning could have been back there tonight, and we still were not going to do anytnhing with the revolving door the O line was. Is Steele good, hell no. But there are some big problems here other than him.

1st and 10 - Run up the middle - stuffed.
2nd and 9 - Run up the middle - stuffed.
3rd and 8 - Pass play. Nobody open. Jantz running for his life.

That was the entire first half.

In the 3rd quarter we found things that worked for us on that TD drive. So on our very next possession what do we do? Go back to doing the things that didn't work in the first half. Run up the middle. Run plays that take too long to develop.

Jantz is an issue - but so is everything else.

He's the best we have.
But the best we have is almost completely ineffective.
How much worse can it get with the second best we have?

When we went with the two back set the read was working in the beginning of the second half. Of course, we go right back to one running back. Steele missed multiple easy throws. This made us one dimensional and even more predictable than usual. We do not have a QB who can throw. We do not have a Qb that can run. WTF are we doing?

The D Line of TT deserves a lot of credit, but Steele was holding the ball too long and he was scared to make the throws Doege was making. When he did get the nice throw to Brun the TT Safety made a good play to separate the ball from him.

Bruns making some good points. TCU better up front that Tech. Not getting production from QB but ISU offensive line completely dominated. Need to go from complete domination to at least breaking even against a better line next week.

No, it isn't. I know everyone's ****** after the game and being argumentative becomes natural, but no one is saying that.

I didn't mean for that to come off as argumentative, but everyone is saying bench Jantz and the OP created this thread with a specific title. So, I am guessing the title should have been ***Official Bench the Entire Team thread***, just to avoid confusion....

I don't get all the defense of Steele? I am pretty level headed but 2 of the turnovers tonight were absolutely terrible. We had a chance at tieing and then he just fumbles it with no one touching him? WTF? What is the worst that could happen if we put in Barnet? We turn the ball over without anyone touching him? Throw a pick with no one within 15 yards? Not convert a 3rd down until after halftime?

Seriously, it doesn't get any worse as far as offense goes; this is the bottom.

That doesn't mean Jantz is free from blame.

It's not, but what makes people believe that we have a better QB ready to play today? Was it Barnett's stellar performance against WIU? I'm just curious why the backup is always the most popular person on the team. Is it because football is too difficult for people to analyze in depth so they automatically jump straight to the guy who takes the snaps all game?

If we had a better QB than Jantz I'd say put him in. But with the way the OL is playing and with how the Messingham is calling plays I'm not sure it'd be much better. I'm not sure Steve Young in his prime could make the offense work at this point in time.

What about the horrid offensive line? Very predictable play calling? Nope...it's all the QB.

Idiots.

Steele missed some wide open throws. This made us one dimensional. The OLin and Play calling were issues as well, but when you can't complete passes the Defense can rush more people. We had almost no passing game tonight.

Jantz was bad, but...

The OL was horrible tonight.
The play calling has been horrible all season.
The offensive scheme has been horrible not just all season, and not just under CPR's tenure, but for as long as I can remember.

Jantz was bad tonight, but I don't think another QB does any better.

Spot on. Can't lay all the blame on Jantz. Good lord the play calling was some of the worse game planning I have ever seen.
