Steele made some bad decisions, but the offensive line was hanging him and our RB's out to dry all night. Our OL got badly dominated by Tech all night. Combine that with the fact that they got their run and short pass game going in the 2nd half, and got some lucky bounces all game(Fumble forced on Doege recovered by lineman, RB fumbled and it bounced directly back into his hands, Brun fumble after getting drilled), and you have a 24-13 loss. We need better OL protection for Steele, and better blocks for opening up the run game. Our offense is predicated on using the run game to open up the passing game, and we didn't do that tonight. If Steele isn't running for his life he doesn't drop that last ball in the first place, although I agree he should have better ball security than that.
Barnett is a better runner, and can run the zone read better, but his arm strength is much worse. Don't forget that Barnett was also turnover prone and ineffective against the powerhouse defense of Western Illinois. I'd like an upgrade on what we have, but it's just not there right now. The backup is always the most popular person the team...
