I remember that a couple of weeks later, maybe late December, I was talking to a coworker who was going on about how the basketball team really sucked again. She’d competed on an ISU team.
I looked at her and asked, “Have you looked at the record lately?”
Except we saw those flashes as a freshman. The staff has really stuck him in that bruiser non factor on offense role. Nothing against him, but he doesn't really have the personality to fight out of that role. You still see flashes, but I think he could have been a pretty dominant big man. When he plays free and energetic on the offensive side of the ball he can be great. He in the past has shown an ability to add an outside shot. He can do stuff offensively. That said the staff doesn't encourage it and seems to discourage it even.
Our offense historically has been best when we can have 1-5 on the perimeter. Young can do that some. He is never going to be a great threat, but he could have developed into a decent enough threat to keep people honest. Now we just have 5's that take up space or allow help away from them.
Gonzaga KU was close until I think about 8 minutes left and they went on an offensive flurry. I’ve watched both their games. They are the best team in the country easily right now so KU losing by 12 really isn’t bad with all the new faces they were playing.

No, I just think it is DUMB to over react during the first half of the first game of the year.

I think the good old... "fire Prohm" posts by some were made mostly in jest, but possibly not.
Other than that.... we played like total s**t the entire 1st half.... there was nothing good to take from it honestly. Even the 2nd half wasn't great..... albeit it was 10x better than the 1st half.
The 2nd half at least showed in spurts what we're capable of doing.... now it will just be a matter of trying to play like those spurts for 30-40 mins of a game instead of just a handful of minutes.
That was one of our biggest problems last year -- we had a bunch of guards who all generally did the same thing. These guys seem to have more diverse game styles already, just after 1 game. That's worth something.
It was still the first half of the first game. ******* christ impatience at it's finest. We have 3 new transfers and 4 new freshman playing in their first ISU game and people think they are going to come out flawless. Oh and then throw in that COVID messed up practice schedules so they couldn't be practicing full squad vs full squad as much as they normally would.
I mean, ALL of your sports takes are dumb. It’s hard to narrow it down to just two or three.
What are your expectations for the season?
I'd guess less than .500 overall. But that has nothing to do with today.
Has anyone brought up that while Ar-PB is not good, they've actually played games and maybe were trying to redeem themselves after starting their last game down 25-0?

Actually it don't bother me, but the same **** in game threads is old.
I think people would be more patient if Prohm ever really put out a product that suggested good preparation.

George Conditt played guard until a major growth spurt, so he has some untapped ball handling and shooting skills. And yet the staff seems determined to shackle him close to the basket.
It sounds like they won’t do the same with Xavier—but who knows?
