With most of Fred’s teams, if you were down double digits, it was not a threat. TJ is sharpening steel with these close games. All his teams are fighters, but this year we have depth to handle the intensity to play our D and the offensive consistency to give us a chance to win any game.

Do the postgame press conferences only get posted here after home games?
I'm interested to hear the TTech coaches thoughts.

Thanks Madguy!

I think he's got a good perspective on things. I also think he's accurate in saying ISU's got some holes that Tech was able to take advantage of.

I'm curious to see if ISU gets two aspects figured out: rebounding and letting teams get to the lane.

Loved the rebounds early, but have to admit I was relieved when Heise fouled out. Hope he shoots lights out Wednesday.
I wasn’t disappointed at all in his play. Sure, needs to hit some of those shots, but overall was really damn solid. Like Chat, he continues to do the little things. He had a couple awesome assists in the first half as well that led to key buckets that kept the deficit manageable.

If I was a fly on the wall, I would've like to hear Otz's conversation during Kishon's inbound timeout where he grabbed the officials shoulder to finish the point he was making. I'd never seen Otz demanding that type of attention.

My guess is that on the foul call, the other ref waved off the basket several times, then turned towards Otz and waved it off again and appeared to stare at Otz for an extended period of time. When he was talking to the official during the timeout, he was also pointing and I think he was pointing to the ref that was in Otz's face.

It was the foul call with 1:25 left where Jefferson had what seemed like an and 1, but they waved it off. Late whistle. Felt like a "uh oh, he's getting a good look, I better call the foul on the floor.

Because TJ feels comfortable with him guarding their best scorers. They weren’t attacking Nate, they were using their best players. The Anderson kids shot was pretty damn impressive. Couldn’t play better defense. The other team has some guys that are pretty good too.
This is an excellent point. Heise gives TJ the option for a guard that A) can guard multiple positions, B) you don't have to worry about fouling him out (saving fouls on your top three guards), C) is a really good defender in his own right and D) is perfectly happy going out there and doing all the dirty work. Oh, and has the ability to score, even if he has been a bit cold lately.

All of those things make him very valuable and an underrated asset toward winning games.

I'm starting to get worried about getting screwed out of a 1 seed. Duke and at least one out of the SEC are going to get one. Odds are the SEC gets two. Very unlikely the Big 12 gets two. Which means it's us or Houston potentially. We may need to win that game at Houston.

The Net Rankings are really frustrating When you look at Q1 and Q2 resumes Iowa State should be 2. We should absolutely be in front of Houston ,Tennessee, and Florida. The algorithm is such a freaking mystery because it seems like they make tweaks to it ever year. This year it seems to be over valuing Q3 wins or at least that's all I can come up with. It's going t be really hard for the Clones to get in front of Tennessee and Florida if things stay the course because the SEC resumes are LOADED with Q1 games.

Rebounding isn't as bad as it appears IMO. It's easy to just look at the stat sheet and see the offensive boards the other team is gathering but some of that is scheme too. With our help side/trap style of defense it's almost impossible to account for everyone. Our biggest area for improvement is probably on the post. We have a tendency to get a little too deep. We also force teams into taking 3's which lead to long rebounds.

Strange ... zero wins in Q1 has more weight than zero wins in Q3.

Beyond stats there are guys waiting for the board instead of looking to attempt to box out.

It seems to get better in the 2nd half but even late Saturday Tech had a few easy put backs.
