A little on scoring by my man Tamin Lipsey:

His scoring and three-point shooting are both down a good bit from last year (10.4 vs. 12.4 points per game, 31.0% vs. 39.1% on threes), but his make-rate on two-point shots is way up (59.1% vs. 44.5%), his free-throw shooting is up (75.0% vs. 70.5%), and his "points per shot" is up a good bit (1.44 vs. 1.24 points/FGA).

He has hit some really important late game 3s

I suspect that - like Milan - he’s getting less offensive usage due to Jones performance, Gilbert finishing more at the rim and - most importantly - an offensively competent front court. This probably comes with better loooks overall when he does attempt FG.

And I’d Tamin is anything like we think he is, he does not care at all that his scoring is down (of course, not implying you think otherwise).

Re-watching the last couple games on DVR..

Tamin has been AWESOME. He struggled early in the year (as I believe his shoulder injury was worse than anyone was letting - I’ve said previously that he was “injured” (hurt) and not just like “oh Tamin is always sore because he plays so hard and hits the ground a lot! He’ll never be 100%!” - but like, injured injured, and toughed it out anyway). His court awareness and leadership on the court are elite right now. And his game has taken a huge step forward. His ball-handling, his drive-and-finish game - both have been a clear step-up this year. He had a couple dribble drives to the hoop and finishes yesterday in that 2nd half that were fantastic/elite plays. And then of course splashed a critical 3, and made the game tying play by finding JJ at the buzzer. I’ve watched the play now 20 times - just amazing effort and execution by this man. Tamin is the man.

I'm starting to get worried about getting screwed out of a 1 seed. Duke and at least one out of the SEC are going to get one. Odds are the SEC gets two. Very unlikely the Big 12 gets two. Which means it's us or Houston potentially. We may need to win that game at Houston.
Let SEC play out. Auburn will take a big hit without Broome. They will feast on each other.

Bit too early to worry with 16 regular season games to play.

I think we need to win the Big 12 regular and at least one tourney game to get a #1, but that's nothing new.

No, I'm moving on to Kansas.

I guess it's perfectly fine for posters in the football thread to whine and complain for months upon end about SEC this, Big 10 that, everything is so unfair, Arizona St was national champs if not for the refs, ESPN is biased, im never watching the playoffs again, but anyone says one word about a playing having a poor game then it's not acceptable.
keep on with the "why is everyone so mean to me" tact - it's going well

you can criticize a player - but if you are wrong about it, or blow it out of proportion, expect to get blowback. You're a big boy, deal with it

Some may disagree but I liked that Heise took that 3 in OT even though he missed it. He has shown he's capable of hitting them and it was a good look. I don't want players who are capable of hitting shots but then turtle up in crunch time.

If he has an opportunity like that again I want him taking that shot 100%.
Agreed - whoever is playing that role on offense (hang out in the corner) needs to catch and shoot that every time. Fran said he didn't like that shot in real time and I remember disagreeing with him. It was quick - but if you have a corner three look, you take it.

One reason I'm so optimistic about next year being at least as good as this year is that I think both Heise and Jefferson will improve their 3-pt shooting 5-10%

All three of Lipsey, Gilbert and Jones have increased their % on two-point shots by a ton - it's an amazing improvement, that's not something that is usually prone to a big jump, but was obviously a big area of focus.

Lipsey (59.1% vs. 44.5%)
Jones (54.9% vs 44.4%)
Gilbert (58.8% vs. 47.4%)

Lipsey freshman year (52%) was the only season any of the 3 had gone over 50% on two-point shots previously. It's a huge part of the increased offensive efficiency this year.

I watched from an ocean villa in Curacao after a morning of golf and pool. No complaints from me.
I was on a beach in Mexico. Same here, just had to find some shade so I could see the phone. Life's rough...

We just don’t need Tamin to score much to be extremely effective. I would argue that Tamin not needing to score makes us even more dangerous than previous seasons. He always just takes what is there and doesn’t force his hand. When you have so many playmakers around you he just needs to get things moving and in the right spots. He does so much that doesn’t show up in the box score, it’s actually insane. Tipped rebounds, tipped passes, etc. He is just an incredible winner and the engine that keeps team going. Of course there are better scorers, but there was a reason he was picked first team all big 12.

People are also wrong to go back 30 minutes after the game is over and call out people posting stuff in the heat of the moment. That's the only reason I responded to begin with.
Are you new here?

People will bring old threads back from the dead, going back years just to get shots in at other posters so they can show how they're better fans. Outside the Cave, it's the most toxic aspect of this site.

I agree with you, any call to chill out can be adhered to in both directions. I love the game threads, the roller coaster ride with you all IS THE FUN PART OF FOLLOWING ALONG and think it's stupid to pile on someone for reacting to something that happened in the moment only with the benefit of hindsight, when we all could just laugh about it.

Ok, ill admit I took it too far last night. If you go back and look and pages 65-70 there were around 25 different negative posts about Heise in OT.

Try just not saying stupid **** in the first place.
