Message received loud and clear guys. Absolutely zero criticizing of any player that shoots 1-6, airballs a 3 and fouls out while giving up 4 straight points in OT . Got it!
Appreciate the moment. Could other players performed better? Of course. It was far from a perfect game for ISU. Heck, MM only had 4 shot attempts.

But ISU won in a thrilling game. Just keep this in mind for the future: Talking negatively will by nature bring the attitude of those around you down. People here were elated about the win. But reading your comments they felt less elated. And people didn’t want to feel this way. Did you say anything that was inaccurate? No. But there is a time and place for constructive criticism. And when people are feeling very happy was not a time for negativity

Just enjoy the win. And hopefully Heise and other players who had some mistakes can redeem themselves vs Kansas

No, I'm moving on to Kansas.

I guess it's perfectly fine for posters in the football thread to whine and complain for months upon end about SEC this, Big 10 that, everything is so unfair, Arizona St was national champs if not for the refs, ESPN is biased, im never watching the playoffs again, but anyone says one word about a playing having a poor game then it's not acceptable.
Big difference between folks whining about the SEC and folks putting down our own players during the best start our basketball (and football) teams have ever had. Just be a little better and take a few chill pills

Ok, ill admit I took it too far last night. If you go back and look and pages 65-70 there were around 25 different negative posts about Heise in OT.

People are also wrong to go back 30 minutes after the game is over and call out people posting stuff in the heat of the moment. That's the only reason I responded to begin with.

The folks criticizing Heise's defense late are absolute morons and do not understand basketball.

We were playing small ball in order to switch all screens and protect the three point line. Lipsey/Gilbert/Jones/Heise/Jefferson is our best defensive lineup by far and TJ has gone with that combination several times to close out close games (see Iowa, Marquette, Colorado).

Heise is a freaking guard and he was being asked to defend one of the best forwards in the country in Williams. He is able to do that because he is so incredibly versatile and tough on the defensive end. He gives up both height and a ton of weight to Williams. Of course that was the mismatch Tech would pursue and they were going to try to back Heise down. Other teams have good coaches and good offensive players too.

This is why I tend to stay away from the game day thread during the game. There’s just too much raw emotion and some of the comments look silly when read after the game.

So many reasons that was the right no call. Did he catch it in the air? Did he have full possession? As you said, was he bumped off?
People tend to focus on the last disputable play when complaining when they should be focusing on the crazy missed free throws by their top shooters.
Exactly. #6 Horner totally was going for it and bounced off of Jefferson. Jefferson never had solid possession. It would take some real ******* officials to call the walk or the loose ball foul. Non call was the right call.

Many posters (myself included) give some heat-of-the-moment, overly-reactionary takes mid-game that look like pretty cold takes in retrospect. All in good fun!

No problem with you being critical of a player, but if you're gonna be critical you should probably give the entire picture which includes 9 rebounds (3 offensive) and 2 assists.

Was it a great game for Heise? No, but Nate (much like Chatfield) does things that impact the game which are not always reflected in the box score. We would not be the #3 team in the nation without him.
Agree. The impact is primarily on the defensive end and Milan just isn't quick/strong/athletic enough at this point to play the type of defense required at the end of games. Having said that, Milan does seem to be getting better in the defensive rebound dept. I'll go out on a limb and say I'm pretty sure the staff have a better idea than anyone on this board of who the best players are.

We're getting a little too high on our own supply for sure. I'm enjoying every minute of this season though.
100%

I usually never watch recording of the games. If I miss it live then I usually follow the score on an app as the game is happening. This year when I’m unable to watch live, I’ve recorded the game and then silenced my phone, so that id don’t see how things went. Late at night once wife and kid go to bed I catch-up and watch the game. Don’t want to miss any minute of this amazing season so far.

Who would you have preferred play defense in his place?

4 straight points to a 1st team all big 12 player, that is.

Tough environment, the Cyclones have a huge target on their backs, and Texas tech is a good, well-coached team. A fair portion of the team (everyone but CuJo) played a little off. Good coaching and grit won that game.

Thats the type of game that could have sent Tech on a good arc for their season, but with Iowa State walking out with a win will keep them on theirs.

Put me in the Heise fan club FWIW.

I figure I can ***** about things when they lose, why nitpik about things when they win. M

There are a couple of folks here that would ***** about getting a free beer because it's not the normal brand they drink. It's how some people roll I guess.

Find fault amongst all the good
Free is actually my favorite flavor!

Some may disagree but I liked that Heise took that 3 in OT even though he missed it. He has shown he's capable of hitting them and it was a good look. I don't want players who are capable of hitting shots but then turtle up in crunch time.

If he has an opportunity like that again I want him taking that shot 100%.

I thought the team was battling sickness or trouble focusing. It wasn’t just Heise that had shots come up way short. I thought Curtis had one too. I think Keashon gave up defensively on a play or too. At the end of the game the team let up and didn’t get back for an easy TT bucket and TJ called time out. When was the last time that happened? Almost never. I don’t think any of it is worth calling out someone with a bad game. Life on the road.

Agreed. When you win a game like that it comes down to every play good or bad.

Heise did not have great offensive game but a big bucket late and lead us in rebounding. A good number in second half where I think we outrebounded them in total which was key to the game.

Chatfield looks ineffective if you look at the box score but anyone watching knows we lose that game if not for some very timely plays and other little things that don’t show on stats.

Even as bad as Keshon was at times he made some big plays. Great assist to Milan for 3 that cut it to 2 about midway through second. After missing front end of 1-1 at end of regulation he came back to make key free throws later. Also very subtle but his clear out in Lipseys drive at end of regulation was only reason that passing lane to Jefferson is open. Unclear if that’s a drawn up play or just good awareness but we don’t tie without his effort that last play.
the block and tap out by Chatfield was amazing.

Basketball players are not going to all hit shots all the time. Especially role players. Even good players have bad games sometime shooting. Not everyone on the team is always going to be hitting shots all the time that is how basketball works. That is why having multiple options is good.
