I think people are too hung up on the idea that the 19 point lead became 4 points. It was actually a 10-14 point lead for minutes 10 to go - 4, so it wasn’t like it was a 15-0 run or something. Also, from the point they got it to 4, we played well to keep them at arms length. No turnovers, didn’t foul them. They never had a possession they could take the lead. Not a lucky win or dumpster fire by any means.

I rewatched this too…great team effort but man C Jones had an incredibly lethal game.
If this springboards him and Lipsey is fully recovered what a blessing in disguise.

Bad calls happen on the road but the second half of this one was out of the ordinary one sided. The play where Gilbert got mugged at the rim and they sprinted down for a 3 was a potential 5 point swing on just one horrible call. That same no call made the touch fouls on our bigs right after it especially ridiculous.
I rewatched this game because I'm a sicko and what I saw were a bunch of individuals really committing to the defensive side.
The awareness and desire to play great team defense was impressive but also a necessity for this team to have future success.
I feel Tamin being unable to play for a game or two might be the best thing for the team in the long run. The team really worked together on finding a way to get the offense going.
I felt in prior games this year the team deferred to Tamin when finding a shot too much. Hopefully this game allows the team to realize that others need to step up too.

There was a stretch around that time frame where the officiating was really bad. I think right around that time there was also a loose ball they said went off us although we didn't even have any players around it.
On that scrum at the end where they missed about 5 bunnies in a row, someone pushed Watson out of the way to get a rebound.
Just as important, there was a stretch where Pav bricked a 3, then proceeded to give up two 3s in a row. That was a 9 point swing and I think TJ promptly benched him shortly after that sequence.
The refs were allowing TCU to get into our players while we couldn't do it as much because of foul trouble.
Our fans criticizing that last sequence where TCU missed all the put backs must be blind. The only reason they got all those offensive rebounds was two handed shoving ISU players to the ground. Our players were brilliant for realizing they weren’t going to be allowed to hard foul the same way.

I Love how TJ has brought on Omaha. Did not put him out there before he was ready and kill his confidence. When he is in the game I concentrate on him. He looked like he is finally comfortable playing within the defense. He appeared to be in the proper position and moving to cover his assignment. Offense will come as he is more comfortable playing. Looking forward to seeing more of him in the coming games.
Agreed,this is an exciting development. Just the fact he was able to trust him for 6 minutes against elite competition on the road is a good sign.

Thought Pav looked like a bench player. Have to take the good with the bad. He will get better. At times he’s clearly overmatched.
This is a 10 player team. Some may be bench players, but they are important in giving rest to the starters. They are all improving each game and they all seem to know their role and are comfortable with it. The bench energy and involvement is fantastic to see.
I'm p***** that they only won by 4 and had to score with less than a minute left to win.
May as well pull out of the playoffs and go home.

Agreed completely. I've been harping on "energy and intensity" being the key to this team - and it being measured in turnovers - and that game was the perfect example.
It was an interesting game where we were, in the end, statistically outplayed in every measurement except turnovers. It didn't really seem like it during the game, maybe because they missed so few shots, but they dominated the offensive glass, getting >50% of their misses. That would normally doom us, but many of those offensive rebounds led to turnovers.
It's REALLY REALLY hard to win on the road in the Big XII, especially against an upper tier team. You basically have to have a "fluke" like the 27 turnovers to make it happen. I'm glad we got one, this win is basically a one line boost in the tourney seeding by itself.
Agree this win is huge for our resume for the human committees because I think TCU is a really good team. As far as the analytics are concerned though this win is not much different then a close loss.
I thought that initially when TJ & Dixon had brief handshake. But then noticed they both went back toward their benches because it looked like the officials were confirming the clock was at zero before TCU shot went through net.

Although the variance in play from TCU contributed, the intensity and toughness required to win on the road, let alone get up 20 well into the second half is something we’ve missed for most of two decades.
Effort and toughness can only take a team so far though, particularly against good teams that will eventually play “their game” too. That’s where the analytics having minimal movement is valid.
If we get to a place in which we are better able to hold large leads, we’ve fundamentally improved to a level of the top tier. Those teams in which there isn’t such regression to the mean, they’re just better.
