How far did Fizer minus Tinsley get in the NIT?

This. Fizer was a best but Tinsley was what made that team go, if you had to pick one position in college basketball where you would want to have a stud on your team, would obviously be pg.

It if clear from the game this weekend that we might as well start thinking about next year. The team will be lucky to win a few non-conference games. Another year like this and Fred could be gone.

We looked less than spectacular, lacked polish, chemistry, and intensity. They made fade-away threes with a hand in their faces. Our likely best player was hurt, played only 13 minutes, and played badly. But, we won by 15. Step off the ledge.

If people were expecting Scotty to be a DG type PG that can drive and dish they'll be disappointed. He doesn't have that game. He can be the PG that can facilitate the offense and get the ball where it needs to be and will spread the Defense with his 3pt shooting.

The team with it's offensive talent doesn't need a PG that scores 20pts a game we need one that can be smart with the ball.

I was just joking. I just wanted to feed into the crazies who think that the season is doomed after one exhibition game.

So bubu? Bubu wouldnt score but he would do exactly that. Be smart and run the offense

We would be playing 5 v. 4 on offense. I think someone else said it in here already, that guy would end up doubling our post without any regard to Bubu's location on the floor.

I thought your post was somewhat out of character.

I didn't get to watch the game but just looking at the stat line it seems to me the biggest problems were defense in the first half and rebounding the entire game. They can't let a team they should beat easily shoot that good of percentage in the first half and they have to do better rebounding. I am really not worried about who plays PG, that will work itself out. I think though there may not be one true PG like DG, the team has enough capable guards to get the ball up the floor.

I only got to see the first half (thanks Clone Zone), but I will say GVSU did make a lot of shots where we were in pretty good position.

I think if this season isn't succesful it isn't due to the PG by committee it is because we couldn't get the right defensive intensity and rebound. More specifically the post defense. It will be an issue all season I fear.

Did that happen last year when he was in? cuz that just sounds like the other team is begging to be scored on.

And what does everyone want? cuz apparently scotty, allen and mcgee arnt PG's as 95% of the posters have said and playing PG takes away from there strengths, shooting and scoring. Yet Bubu is a PG but he shouldnt even get a chance? I just want to see him play more and see if the offense plays better with him in.

I can't speak for others, but I'm fine with SC running the point. Bubu is a serviceable backup, and that's it.

I don't really care if SC gets fewer looks from 3 if those other guys are shooting the same percentage as SC did last year. I don't care who scores.

In addition, SC will get his looks after the iniation of the offense. It didn't get run through a whole lot yesterday as we got bogged down in 1 v. 1 situations a lot it looked like. But SC had open looks during the flow of the offense. At least in the 1st half I can think of 3 occasions where he just didn't pull the trigger.

GVSU is a decent team...much better than the 50 point whooping people predicted here..I would say they are better than some of the non-conference teams we will play this year..also their assistant is pretty familiar with Hoiberg so not suprising we didn't look good

haha..glad people have figured out how our season will go by watching what is in essence a practice..used to experiment with different lineups and pretty much experiment with anything they want without consequence..

Nobody has said that it isn't....The point is that it is incredibly silly to not see the bigger picture.

This team is a brand new team. This is a coach that is beginning his second year, with no previous experience. This is a program that was left gutted by an incompetent coach that was at the bottom of the ocean over his head. But most of all remember, this team does have some real holes that will cause problems for them the entire year.

But it is an experiment that has not been tried in this manner before. We will see what happens. But the one thing that is for sure, we have more good players in the program now than we have had in many years. And the recruiting has been solid, as well. The future is ok here. We will be good.

But what is the point of claiming your misery today? I don't get that.

We are going to go through the usual ups and downs that decent but not great programs go through. I will look forward to all of your overreactions, I am sure they will be great.

One favor, please be better than 21, quit overreacting. And especially be better than dude....Actually act like you like Iowa State.

Woah... Easy my man.

I was just pointing out that last year we had 2 guys that were capable , in DG and Jake Anderson. Pointing out that Jake was really critical in a lot of our wins. He could board and help run the offense, two things that we will drastically miss this year.

I never said anything about the direction of the program. Obviously it is in the right direction. We have 2 of our top 4 guys (likely) sitting on the bench this year redshirting. Adding those guys makes us very explosive.

Did I just see Bubu get mentioned? No, no, no. And he looked awful on Sunday. If Bubu gets meaningful minutes this year it will mean we are having an awful season.

It's a problem folks. We have some dang good players but PG is a major issue.

Let's see. Scotty had 6 assists, 2 TO and 3 rebounds in 30 minutes of play with a team that's never played together in a real game and line-ups that changed every 5 minutes. Now you're declaring him to be inadequate. I'll trust CFH to make the call, but I think he'll do just fine, if no one else emerges as being better.

I don't think you said anything that was inaccurate. Its true we're currently unstable at the point guard position until we find the solution. I think people are ignoring the idea that a guy like Scotty playing the point will struggle against athletic pressure defense in conference play. He might not turn it over much, but if we're intiating our offense from 25 feet out vs. 20 feet out that will cause us some major problems.

He'll struggle no more than Petersen or Holloway did (yes, I brought up Holloway). We also have other guys that can handle the ball (from what I saw yesterday) pretty well, so it's not like all the ball handling responsibilities fall on SC.
