JBB, you need to get another hobby. This game is the least exiting game of the year for cyclone fans. There is not another game on the schedule that I could say that I care less about. If I had to choose between our spring scrimmage and this game, I would pick the spring scrimmage. But I know how you feel, it is like when I was a kid and the only place we had to shop was our crappy little five and dime store, the local Gibson's (now Pamida) or Ben Franklins, it was amazing and exciting to go to Mason City, Rochester, or Austin and get to shop at a "big" mall. Enjoy your weekend in Ames and cherish your memory of a fantasy trip to a BCS venue. Hopefully you can relive your fantasy on a yearly basis with other BSC venues. PS, consider ice fishing, it may be a good diversion for you.
Hopefully a lot of Cyclone fans will feel the same way you do. That way the stadium will get soft and there will be plenty of tickets for the BISON fans. I dont shop much. Ill leave the malls to you.
Plans for Ames: find a place to park for the game. Find a place to eat. Both might be impossible. I like Ames, dont get me wrong, but its just a small town with a huge school. Not much different than Fort Collins or Manhattan for that matter. Both of those towns have built areas where football fans can gather, eat, drink and catch transportation to the game from really cool "spots". Fargo is actually a much nicer place than either Fort Collins or Manahattan.
There arent very smart business owners in Manahattan. They didnt open all the eateries in their little cool college village so they had hundreds of fans looking for places to go. Thats their business I guess. They lost too.
Ill never forget the rant, 20 minutes before kickoff, of the KSU announcer. He started scolding NDSU fans, saying it was cute at first when we came to town thinking we could win. But now he said it was down right disrespectful. Where did NDSU fans and their team get the idea they could beat a huge, disinterested, defending Big 12 champion? He went on to say the Coach and the team were very aware of the disrespect in the locker room and we were all going to see that on the field in just few minutes.
Well, it was 104 degrees at kickoff, and they were KSU.
The point is the game is a celebration for the fans and a competition for the teams. I try and keep it that way.
