Looking forward to this game. It is a superbowl of sorts for NDSU thats for sure. Its actually an honor to get invited to play at Jack Trice. In my opinion its nicer than the new KSU stadium but there are a lot of similiaraties. Both are pretty nice.

I started to take a look at the prediction problem all of us football fans have with this and every other game. When predicting a game I use the GAM - Game Analyzer Mechanism. We like to say it gives you a leg-up!

The GAM is kind of an unusual approach. Its all based on efficiency and keeps subjective input to a minimum. When the GAM is wrong it has been an upset.

The first place to start, since this is an opening game, is with last years statistics to compare the teams based on their overall season performance. I realize The Cyclones played a tougher schedule so I did adjust the inputs to represent a total -20% for NDSU. I took down NDSUs stats -14% and increased the ISU stats by +6%.

NDSU had a pretty good team last year. The GAM is showing a close game, 25.9-22.4 in favor of The BISON. This is close enough so the subjective inputs should be examined. However, Im not going to do that it will be more productive for us to review the changes from last season and then adjust the stats. NDSU has a lot of change to contend with.

No worries, without Craig Bohl NDSU will recede to mediocrity.

This is of course the biggest change and the #1 worry of all BISON fans. Coach Bohl is one of the best coaches in the country. If NDSU is going to fade, as suggested, it will start at Ames. A blowout by the Cyclones would signal the end of the Bohl era.

Way up there
We had last years opener at Manahattan Ks. switched to the Friday night game. The tailgating was pretty big with lots of NDSU fans but there were acres of open area left over at least where we were. I think it did have a negative impact on the tailgating but the KSU fans were out in force with all the space close to the stadium filled up.

The Friday night game means travel on Wed, thursday and Saturday, which means you can get home on Sunday. I like that a little better but if this game were in Fargo I would want it on Saturday too.

I would think it wont be moved unless one of the big networks wants to pick it up a show case it as the "spotlight" game.

Which was on Fox sport1 if iirc. Could see a similar thing happening

Wow. There must literally be NOTHING to do up there in ND. You all need a hobby or some other team to cheer for. It is just entirely too early to be dissecting this game.

Just heard about Coach Bray. We offer our condolences and our prayers for the Coach and his family. In respect to the Great Iowa State fans, the program and the spirit of the game I will resume this discussion next week. I'm interested in changes on the ISU team and will report on the ongoing rebuilding effort at NDSU.

I'm sure the family and most ISU fans appreciate your condolences. However, you say you want resume discussion of this topic next week. No offense but 99.9% of the people on this board aren't even paying attention to football right now. Everybody is in basketball season mode. Bump this thread in April and I'm sure slowly more and more people will jump back in. The game is 7 months away...

Re: NDSU v Iowa State 2014 (after NDSU wins 3rd title & 43-2!)

You guys make me smile. NDSU brought 30,000+ to 3 Minnesota games and 20,000 to freakin dallas texas. NDSU would do just as good if not better than isu in the fbs

Lakes uses his own sources, he doesn't need facts.

The highest attendance of a championship game with NDSU involved was 21,400 against a team from TEXAS. Which based on the pictures of the game half the stadium was Sam Houston State fans.

This years game against Towson had an attendance of 19,000. Each school was allotted 3000 for the game and Towson sold out their allotment.

And having been at one of the Minny vs NDSU football games with a friend who is a former Bison player no way there were 30K at the game we were at.
