JP is doing a good job....of selling excitement.

His hated predecessor, BVD, was here for 5 years and experienced 4 bowl games and 3 basketball tournaments. In Jamie's 3+ years there have been no bowl games, no basketball tournaments, a football team that went 0-8 in the conference, and a basketball team that lost to South Dakota State at home. It is 100% clear even to Jamie's most outspoken supporters that every program he has touched has gotten worse during his tenure.

Jamie's salesmanship is only going to work so long before he has to deliver some of what he's selling. Another year or two like the last two in FB and BB and the next time we see Jamie he'll be driving a truck around Ames selling satellite dishes instead of false excitement.

Completely false. Do your homework and stop looking at only W's and L's. Things have to be in shape before those come along. Also, stop looking at only MBB and FB's W's and L's.

Things were not in good shape when JP got to Ames. BDV lived off of Gene Smith for a bit and JP is playing for BDV's mess. BDV did do one thing good he did save money, becuase he had not clue on how to make it.

JP's decison to assume control of Hilton has left me cold so far. He picked Centerplate to take over concenssions from SMG and they have not been impressive - understaffing, reduced food choices, higher pricing. Also dirtier and not great service.

To be fair, Gene Smith left BVD a fiscal mess.

JP is doing fine. He was able to dump the Chiz for no money and get a coach hired. Big Mac has good recruits coming in, but he must perform by end of next full year or JP will take care of the problem. JP is doing fine. Bill Fennelly, Cael, Christie are also doing fine. Fine in my book means solving issues and problems as they arise. Some people do this better than the Chiz.

Completely true, dude. It's time to quit "waiting for things to be in shape". Pollard has been here for four years now. And quit searching for moral victories. What matters is results.

We must not forget that we hired an administrative AD from Wisconsin. For us to think he actually would have the experience to hit homeruns on all coaching hires from the get go would be foolish. I am not a huge fan of his due to this. But as others have noted, tha admin side of things are going along very well (fund raising, facilities, etc.) I know that many do not want to give him anymore time, but that is exactly what he needs on the program side. At this point, who else would take the role anyhow???

Okay, let me have it...

I don't agree with your last point above - this is a very attractive job for any up-and-comer AD, just for our very large fan base. Jamie could have gone to many other schools for his first AD job, and would have had to work much harder to drum up enthusiasm and ticket sales. Cyclone fans just need hope to show up.

1. You should have sat in my section at the UNLV game this year. Some big donors wanted JP's head.

2. I've been an ISU fan since 1975 - Jamie has taken us to places we've been before, and I really have my doubts he will take us where we want to go.

Can't make everyone happy. I like the fact that we have an AD willing to take chances. And judging by the budget increases, there are more "big donors" who agree with what JP's doing than not.

Sorry but this time thing is getting old!

Perseverance, maybe not a precise synonym for "time", but the two are related.

You think we Cyclone fans have alternatives to patience, to perseverance? You believe we can hire coaches who can magically turn the league's weakest athletics department into an overnight winner?

I'll wager that most fans here understand there is only one way ISU can build its athletics programs -- from the ground up. Over time.

Cyclone fans must be strong and rugged; they must never say die. They must fight for success over the long haul. Success must be earned.

The alternative is a fool's paradise.

Pretty much agree with you. I think it could be argued that DMac had peaked and the program was heading down, with enthusiasm dying. No arguing that his overall conference winning percentage in the 28% range wasn't cutting it. Morgan should have been given a 4th year as imo the whole team would have returned had it not been clear that JP was trying to get rid of him. JP has no background in football or basketball, so needs a lot of help in evaluating coaches. I was shocked when I heard he had offered Chiz two more years a few weeks ago. But I don't doubt his sincerity in loving ISU, and I think he may have got it right with the Rhodes hire (time will tell).

That's basically a "recruiting extension". It's amazingly common. It basically means that we weren't going to fire him this year so he has a leg to stand on when he's out recruiting.

You are right, that is exactly why he was so excited to come to ISU. He had one less thing to worry about. You hit the nail on the head with your hope comment. A little bit goes a long way with Clone fans.

I agree with all your points, except E. GMac was a great hire at the time, he was a hot coaching hire, disagree all you want. But look at the facts, he had risen the UNI program and taken them to the tourney. C****k was a great hire, I bet no one saw what kind of snake he really was. He was coordinator who was heavily wanted. I really don't get why people bash Pollard for his hiring. JP has only so much control, and he has my full support. He has done a lot of great things for us, and I'm really excited for the future.
