I embrace simple pleasures:
- taking my socks socks off at the end of the day
- going out for the sole purpose of getting an ice cream cone
- watching my daughter having fun with her friends
- a slow drive at night with the top off the Jeep

I also feel like a boss whenever I knock something off a table or drop something, but then have a super-human reflex and snatch it before any damage gets done. Last month, we were out to eat. While I was turned around talking to someone, my wife set her water glass near the edge of the table behind me. As I turned back, I nudged the glass off the table with my elbow but managed to snap my hand down and grab it with very little water spilt. I was like, "Throw me a parade, *******!"

We'd been limping by with an older dyer where sometimes you'd have to run the cycle more than once and it was just kind of a pain in the ***. New one came the other day and I'm honestly giddy to dry some more clothes tonight.

I look forward to my cup of coffee every morning. Seriously the highlight of my days sometimes.
Me too! Thought I was the only one.

I have the old people joys as well.

Inundated with tomatoes, but the grilled cheese tomato sandwich for lunch is a good follow-up to the morning coffee.

We are going through two cups of hummingbird red stuff a week. They are oblivious to the dog and me. They come within a foot of us. They are strikingly beautiful.

And I highly recommend staring at the night sky.

Driving my 1970 Chevy Pick Up. Just driving around, arm out the window. Using a key, hand crank for the window. Able to actual touch the fan belt. Suspension squeaks a bit. AM/FM radio. No A/C. Stop somewhere and have coffee on the tailgate.

Its spiritual.

After 6 months of not having one, I wanted to invite friends over to show them when we got a new fridge with a working ice maker.

Anyone else find that as they get older you get excited about things that used to seem trivial?

For example, today I have leftover stir fry for lunch and I'm super geeked about it.

Just funny how stuff like that can be such a high point of your day.
Not me. I find the older I get, the less geeked I get about trivial things and, in fact, begin to dread them. Like going to the grocery store, which I'm not looking forward to doing today.

I also have a confession to make. I used to love to go to my grandchildren's sporting events, but not anymore. I have a grandson playing his senior year of football and I dread the next game, because it means I will have to sit in those damned uncomfortable bleacher seats for 3 hours.

I turned 30 shortly after my last move and have the same plan for my next. I got a taste with having furniture delivered

Yeah, I last moved around that age, and while I appreciate the friends who helped me move, I'll just hire out the next move. At least for the big stuff.

Ice cream cones... so many memories. Folks didn't have much $ growing up, but summertime we would go on drives just to drive around the area, maybe an hour or two. Usually stopping for a cone somewhere towards the end.

Did some of that with my kids, but usually more after soccer/baseball games. Had more money, less pointless drives.

Now older, doing some of that on the motorcycles, just going out for a ride somewhere and grabbing a cone. Good excuse to go for a ride.

Slow down and enjoy the ride - before its over.

Another trivial excitement - organizing my tools.

First time I got a tool chest for the garage, I was absolutely GIDDY sorting stuff into the drawers, labeling what was in the drawers, etc. Just totally geeked.

100% this.

And when Mom gets home it's like my toddler doesn't even know who i am.

It hurts a little bit when I go see my child when she first wakes up in the morning and says straight to my face, “No, I want mommy.” Thanks, kid. I love you too.

Obviously you like them, and sounds like you have the patience, so I suggest get a hummingbird feeder ring. Cool to have them land on your hand. I'm enjoying that in the cooler mornings with coffee before long work days/weeks start here in the next few weeks.

Going to the grocery store and stocking up knowing I won't have to be back in while!

Oh my, didn’t know they existed. Ordering one now!
