Leftovers and such

Yes, I retired a few years ago and I now appreciate fresh, seasonal produce much more than I used to. I also find the opposite to be true. Things that used to seem important are now trivial.

I had a dozen folks over, mostly from my local hood, to toast the end of summer and also me making another trip around the sun and not dying all year long. They drank me dry but hardly touched the food snacks I had put out. I have a boatload of food leftovers. At least the cheese cake slices will freeze but there's way more I am going to be able eat my way through a lot of the leftovers before it goes bad.

Anyone else find that as they get older you get excited about things that used to seem trivial?

For example, today I have leftover stir fry for lunch and I'm super geeked about it.

Just funny how stuff like that can be such a high point of your day.
Especially when you completely forgot it was in there and open the fridge and "Boom, YES!"

My sit down wee first thing in the AM. It’s all down hill from there. Mostly kidding.

My wife and I have a complicated family schedule and I get to pick the kids up from school 2-3 days a week. It’s great. It’s a half hour break in my afternoon. The school is close by and weather permitting it is a nice walk at a time in the day when I can usually use a walk. And it is a nice reset to talk to the kiddos about their school day on our walk home.

Leftovers are great! I also agree with what others have said. Enjoyment seems to shift as I get older. We're (wife and I) in the go-go-go phase of our careers so its nice to slow down a bit and reflect.

Hearing about my kid's day and his excitement about something, or watching the younger one learn something new. They currently like to dance together or do funny faces at each other and melts my bitter old man heart.
