Pumped up kicks sucks as a song period, much less as a song at a football game. I have no idea how it gets so much play.

SoTW... im not a fan either, but it sounds like its a CPR thing, so take it up with him.

Thank you.....when did that song become standard jock rock? I don't remember it a few years ago, and now it is everywhere. What school started it?...I am curious.
I guess it is better than some of the other over-played stuff.

So.....no debate about smoke on the water??? I am going to have to watch the players waddle out and look at old people not able to clap to it for the next 20 years?
I do agree with you on this. It has been discussed numerous times but it's CPR's favorite song, so I don't see it changing anytime soon.
Smoke on the Water is NOT a good entrance song. Give me something that makes me want to run through a brick wall when the climax of the song hits.

Yeah, the "first down" thing is real cool when you are down 34-7 to Texas. More like embarrassing.

I'm not denying that it loses some of its luster at that point, but in those situations you have to cheer for what you can. Its something called pride - we don't quit, no matter what the scoreboard says.

Besides, I find it a lot more embarrassing when there is no cheering (ie. Texas Tech yesterday) because it means no one cares.

This is about as bad as an idea as the whole student section doing the bernie during the OSU game randomly that has a facebook group for it.

OK, The guy who runs the big music box at Jack Trice, here is what you are going to do:
--No warm-up thug rap please. You can play some 1980's fat boys or maybe even some MC Hammer too legit to quit. Just kidding, but to play the absolute CRAP that they play pre-game has gotten offensive to me. The story I hear is they just carte blanche broadcast the player's request "becuase it gets them pumped up" or whatever. Put something on the air that is mildly, tangibly popular.

--Smoke on the Water is cool for the beginning of intro, but it has not crescendo, no climax. I keep waiting for more. It is 2011, and I know we have had the technology to mix music since, oh, 1915 or so. Please mix Smoke into something a little more rousing, please.

--Sweet Caroline will continue to be banned until 10 minutes after the victory.

--It would be good to hear some more original scores.....I hear the same "Ohhhhhh, oh-oh-oh-oh, ohhhhhhh" bass riff at about three different games this year (different schools) AND on television games too(anyone know this riff? It is annoyingly catchy). These schools all copy each other, and ISU seems hell bent on being a copy cat instead of an orignator.
I suggest "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People for end of third quarter this game....that song is freaking infectious...I can't get it out of my head.

--No more "Cyclone, First down!!!!" thing. DUMB!!!!!!!!

--More cow bell.

1) Let the players listen to whatever they want pre-game... I'd rather have them pumped and ready to play than the fans in the stands.
2)It's Rhoads' favorite song, deal with it
3)Agree with SC after the game
4)Your "Pumped Up Kicks" song is NOWHERE NEAR Zombie Nation. Although I agree that we could get a different song instead of playing it multiple times a game
5)Agreed on the first down thing, I think the music and cheer the band does is plenty good.
6) Cowbell rules.

My suggestion for a crowd pump up song:

I am a student and all your ideas and that song are stupid and have been discussed numerous times here.

The day smoke on the water is no longer our walk out song is the day CPR is not the coach here. The rap songs during pregame are for the players and they have actually put the play lists together themselves, same for bball.

I agree on keeping sweet caroline for after the game but not 10 minutes, maybe right as the game ends or something like that.

my fiance's roommate is all pumped for that and is constantly complaining because the athletic department won't play it. We had never heard of it so she showed us the video...stupidest thing ever. I don't even get what's enjoyable, cool, funny or whatever they think is good about it.

The "Ohhhhhh, oh-oh-oh-oh, ohhhhhhh" is probably the opening riff from Phantom of the Opera. It's pretty popular for big defensive plays, just like "Mars" from the Planets Suite by Gustav Holst. Also, our Third Down cheer is used by other schools.

Two things:

-Pumped Up Kicks is a great song, but a terrible choice for a football game.

-Student section doing the Bernie is f'ing awesome. The reason that ISU doesn't have any cool traditions is most of our fanbase just regards any idea like that as stupid or embarrassing.

The Bernie is embarrassing. I laugh when I watch this video.

Perhaps as an alternative for Pumped Up Kicks, we could play Luka by Suzanne Vega at Jack Trice.
