Two things:

-Pumped Up Kicks is a great song, but a terrible choice for a football game.

-Student section doing the Bernie is f'ing awesome. The reason that ISU doesn't have any cool traditions is most of our fanbase just regards any idea like that as stupid or embarrassing.

You think doing the Bernie would do a good tradition?

Bernie is freaking hilarious.

And even better, I've never heard of any other student section doing this. Absolutely every tradition in college football is patently stupid when you view it in a vacuum. What it makes it is when the fans really embrace it.

But as usual, the majority of ISU fans have a stick up their *** and are too worried about being taken seriously to have any fun.

I would be welcoming of something actually cool, but the Bernie just sucks IMO. (Like Soulja boy. Just too cliche.)

FWIW, I think the cowbell is a pretty good tradition we have going. If we got the whole crowd to do it, that would be amazing.

If the whole stadium did this, it would be intimidating and amazing.

INTERLUDE!

.......oh, that's taken already....oh well.

Well, I guess I don't care what it is; just as long as it's not that "Seven Nation Army" baseline that I seem to be hearing all over a lot of CFB games lately...

OK, The guy who runs the big music box at Jack Trice, here is what you are going to do:
--No warm-up thug rap please. You can play some 1980's fat boys or maybe even some MC Hammer too legit to quit. Just kidding, but to play the absolute CRAP that they play pre-game has gotten offensive to me. The story I hear is they just carte blanche broadcast the player's request "becuase it gets them pumped up" or whatever. Put something on the air that is mildly, tangibly popular.

--Smoke on the Water is cool for the beginning of intro, but it has not crescendo, no climax. I keep waiting for more. It is 2011, and I know we have had the technology to mix music since, oh, 1915 or so. Please mix Smoke into something a little more rousing, please.

--Sweet Caroline will continue to be banned until 10 minutes after the victory.

--It would be good to hear some more original scores.....I hear the same "Ohhhhhh, oh-oh-oh-oh, ohhhhhhh" bass riff at about three different games this year (different schools) AND on television games too(anyone know this riff? It is annoyingly catchy). These schools all copy each other, and ISU seems hell bent on being a copy cat instead of an orignator.
I suggest "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People for end of third quarter this game....that song is freaking infectious...I can't get it out of my head.

--No more "Cyclone, First down!!!!" thing. DUMB!!!!!!!!

--More cow bell.

Wow, I completely disagree with almost every single argument you made (cowbell only exception)

I think the Bernie would be hilarious as a one time thing. Like after the first touchdown for the good guys. Everyone celebrates, then when things settle down the student section does the Bernie.

I like the bernie, hell I did it all over Las Vegas on Spring break. I just think it will look stupid on national tv against #2 team in the nation. Especially if were getting beaten pretty badly.

No, the problem is most of the time someone tries to start a new 'tradition' its completely forced (and often just plain dumb, like this) and thus never catches on. Traditions that stick tend to grow organically, and often over time, not just someone saying 'lets do this and make it a tradition!'

Cowbell is one of the coolest traditions ISU has. It would look so sweet if the entire stadium did it. It's original, its loud, it has simple movements everybody can do, and it looks cool when done in unison.

This post has so much FAIL!

Have you ever seen the student section right before? Everyone dances to the rap songs, we all like it. The players like it too, whenever a "thug" song comes on, all the players are getting in the zone to it.

I guarantee you the players came up with a majority of the songs, so take it up with them if you don't like it. i'm sure they would really like to hear your opinion.

Edit: Actually when DMac was here, i kinda liked our intro, Got the fans pumped up, and everyone knew what was going on.
