Re: Jamaca question

Looking for a warm place to go sometime this winter. Anyone have a great place they have stayed in Jamaica?

I stayed at the Ritz in Montego Bay, it was very nice. If you are into golf their course the Witch Witch was awsome.

Go for Hawaii. It's worth the extra expense....

I've been to both places.

Grand Caymans also are a good choice.

3,000 miles from home and you ate a BK and KFC?

Hey, it was the local pastors taking us there!!!

One time it was the group of church members we were with. We did get home cooked food everyday otherwise.

Gotta love the rice and red peas!! There is a Jamaician resturant Island Grill that had really good food. I loved thier pumpkin rice. Yumm

People do that stuff all the time. We were meeting some friends in Kansas City and they wanted to meet at Famous Daves BBQ.

Some people go to Chicago and eat pizza at Pizza Hut.

We ate at a McDonald's in Israel, because that's where our tour group went.

There was a Little Caesar's across the street from our hotel in Cairo, and some folks crossed that highway to go try it. Sure, it was a multi-lane road, and very busy, and people there take traffic lines as suggestions for somebody else, but these folks had to have their pizza!!!:wideeyed:

I laughed when everyone wanted to go to margaritaville in negril. There was a great jerk place right across the street, and everyone wanted cheeseburgers. I always want to try new foods when I travel.

Re: Jamaca question

Sweet Spice is a great local place to go. It's real Jamaican food cooked for Jamaicans. Your meal runs you $4-5 American for a huge amount of food and fantastic flavor. We're planning to get back there sometime. It's incredible!!!!

If you fly into Montego Bay, see if your cab driver can take you by Border Jerk Chicken. It's rural, but they seem to know the way. We saw cabs there with Americans every Saturday. You get another huge amount for a reasonable price.

We ate local everyday, so it's good to keep that in mind. We did have a lot of local Jamaican food.

Re: Jamaca question

Never been to Jamaica. Been to Bahamas. Overpriced IMO. Been to Mexico about 20 times or so. I have tended to get away from the AI type of resort vacation. My preference is Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Absolutely love it. I stay in a nice 20 room hotel that is on the ocean right in town. You can throw a rock from my ocean view room into the ocean. Breakfast is included which I eat under the beach palapa restaurant with my toes in the sand. A bottle of beer costs around $2 USD or less. I eat fantastic Tacos al Pastor at less than $1 each. Jumbo Shrimp grilled, stuffed with cheese and wrapped with bacon, dinners for less than $15. Eat authentic Mexican for reasonable and the fantastic Fifth Avenue of Playa del Carmen is one short block away. Fifth Avenue is a cobble stone street that is closed to automobile traffic and is about a mile or so in length. It is lined with shops and restaurants and bars. Perfect for bar hopping and eating and shopping and you can do it all without a car. The Cozumel Ferry is a couple blocks from me. I have done the All-inclusive route and find that I am pretty much resort bound when I do it and actually spend more money for what I get. There is nothing like the freedom of hitting beach bar after beach bar and not having to be back by a certain time or restaurant to eat. And for the record, we spend about $50 USD per person per day for food and drink. Mostly beer, some Pina coladas. And the Pina Coladas are the made from scratch with authentic ingredients. Not the pre-mixed dispensed from the machine type in the plastic cup. Once you have had them it is hard to go back to the AI type drinks.
