wow, watch this. maybe leno shouldve listened to his own advice.
Jay's 2004 Announcement from sustainabletips - Video

That is a REALLY interesting video... I didn't see that 5 years ago. Sad that everything has happened exactly how, supposedly, Leno didn't want it to happen again. I suppose this time it didn't happen at the time the Tonight Show host was stepping down, just 7 months later..

I side with Conan in this matter. That said, I think Conan also needs to realize that some of the ratings problems with his show were due to the show itself, and not solely due the debacle of sticking Leno in the 9:00 time slot.

I've been watching Conan since he started Late Night, and I like him. However, after the first three weeks of the new show, there were many times where I felt his show was somewhat reserved, and just not particularly funny...even more reserved on many occasions than Tonight with Leno.

This last week has been great. It has been funny without being overly raunchy. If there had been more of that over the past 6 months, I think his rating would be better, and perhaps good enough that there would be no question of trying to put Leno back at 10:35.

I know it's popular to bash NBC, but I think Ebersol was somewhat correct when he discussed with Conan (as reported in some articles linked here) that Conan needed to consider some changes to Tonight.

So it sounds like there's a deal where Conan can't trash-talk NBC in a new gig without giving up part of his compensation, and the amount NBC has to pay him will be offset by the monies in any contract he signs - i.e. if NBC owes Conan $30 million over 3 years, and Fox signs Conan to a $5 million/year deal, NBC only has to pay $15 million. The article says something to the effect of "Conan won't be able to take NBC to the cleaners..."

I would love to see Fox and Conan strike a deal to screw over NBC. Sign Conan for minimum wage for 3 years, then bump up the salary starting in year 4. Fox would basically have NBC paying for Conan for 3 years.

Some good points. Given that he's suddenly taken a huge step up now that he doesnt care what the network thinks, one has to think that maybe the network WAS behind the fact that his show seemed so reserved (and that line that he 'wasnt accepting changes' was a load of bull). Either way, cutting him off only 7 months in really didnt give him a chance to try to make any needed changes to his show.

I just hope he brings back the special bear (not sure if I can use the m word on CF) before he leaves the tonight show, no sense in holding back now if he can get away with it!

Conan on fire again. Tuned into Jay's show to see if he took any shots at Conan. In Jay's second segment he told his side of the story. For those that missed it tonight's Kimmel is a repeat of the show he dressed up as Leno.

He's taking the high road. Sounds like a plausible story to me.

I think think this NBC's screw up. They should have waited about 5 years to bring Conan in the fold and they also made a mistake putting Leno at 9:00. That hurt both comedians.
I have trouble believing anything Jay says. The guy is a backstabbing snake.
