Anyone have stats? It seems like we were rebounding a LOT better today

I was just looking at the box score on ESPN, and what jumped out to me was that with the exception of Cole, the Iowa big guys were held scoreless.

Tate, Looby, Gorney=0 pts.

Usually Looby can get a couple of back pick dunks and some offensive putbacks, Gorney hits a couple of 17 footers, and Tate gets a couple of freethrow line jumpshots.

Nice work holding them all scoreless. Kelly and Cole are going to be good, though.

I think the rebounding was around 40-35, in our favor. That's what was on the score ring near the very end of the game.

Has there ever been a more lovable Hawkeye than Gorney? Dude literally just occupies space out there. I love to see him in the game.

Agree completely! I am really sad that Cole is getting a bunch of his minutes, because Gorney is hilarious to watch. Lickliter is using him better than Alford did, though. He is putting him in for spot minutes to avoid the 3 fouls in 2 minutes problem he gets into, and runs plays to get him that baseline shot he is pretty good at. He is not trying to turn him into a banger.

Gorney plays softer than Charmin, and even has an awkward sounding name to match his persona!!

I don't know why we were chanting Kelly's name but I did it anyways. Probably just some students trying to pick out someone's name to try and get in their head and he was the best choice. I wish we would do this every game, not just for big games.

That must have been an ugly game, looking at the shooting percentages. I guess the over under on LF 54 pts was dead on. But I love getting a win...winning ugly is better than losing pretty.

It was great to see Garrett got 20 important minutes tonight, I would be surprised if they weren't working him into a starting role soon. I am sure that Sean Haluska is a nice guy, but he is not a Division 1 basketball player. With Diante getting more minutes and Wes playing more and more at the 2, Sean may not play much the rest of the year.

Peterson really impressed me tonight. He didn't dominate the game, but he played a lot better than he has this year when you look at the entire game and played well enough to win. It seemed like things started to click for him more than previous games.

You were impressed with Peterson but not with Haluska? Get a clue. Haluska is the second best defender on the team right now, he is playing pretty good ball over these past couple games.

I like the offense having both Petersen and Garrett out there. Petersen looks more of a shooting guard type than a point guard. His stroke is really smooth, but he doesn't have the ability to slice and dice like Garrett. Garrett doesn't look like the shooting type in my opinion. He's going to be more of a slice, dice, and dish point guard. The huge difference I saw is that both Garrett and Petersen didn't try to take anything that wasn't given, which was a huge reason for the lack of turnovers. I like our offense a lot more when we slow the game down and let things develop.

Yes, there were a bunch of recruits in for the game. They sat very close to me behind cyclone alley on the west side. They were there with Chizik and several of our coaches. The recruits appeared to be very impressed and a great time, except for one guy who wore a burnt orange jump suit, dark sunglasses, and had a Stevie Hicks hair cut - he just slept through most of the game, if that's possible. He looked like a Univ of Iowa gansta recruit.

Wouldn't you think, being on an official visit, you'd actually dress kind of nice to show some class and character? And how could you possibly sleep through that madness? Isn't that a bad impression to be seen like that from coach Chiz perspective? If I was a coach and someone came on an official visit and dressed like a clown. I didn't see him, I'm just stating, but I'd kinda think different. Then a different perspective, if he is able to sleep through 14000 yelling fans, how is he going to stay awake during offensive/defensive/special teams film? Just raises a few questions.

Great TEAM win today. Walters mentioned it being one of the best team wins he remembers. We didn't have an offensive star with the scoring spread around a lot. Rahshon continues to play top notch defense....I was very impressed with him.

We missed a ton of shots. But many of them were good shots...most open looks we have had all season in a game. We could have blown them out by 20+ if we make 1/2 of those open shots we missed. But that's ok, I'll take the win.

Strange gameplan by Lickliter/Iowa tonight. Team have had A LOT of success pressuring our guards and that really didn't happen at all today. On the other end, our coaches had an excellent offensive (hence the many good looks we had) but an even better defensive plan.

Great crowd. I was disappointed with the crowds to date but the crowd was back in full force today. I loved the atmosphere. Chizik and JP got a huge and well deserved ovation at halftime.

Great game today, I had a lot of fun.

I don't think it was winning ugly. I think they shot poorly cause our defense was great today. I think our shooting percentage was low because we missed a lot of inside shots and we're not all that great on offense. Scores are going to be that low ALL year long, we're going to play a slowed down game and try to control it as much as possible.

I posted earlier in the week that we needed Clark and Jiri to have career games today to shake off the Drake debacle. While they didn't have career games, they both did step up big today.

I'm not going to get too giddy, because iowa sucks out loud, but once we made that mini 8 point run in the first half, I never really felt like we were in trouble.

And you have to like Diante raising the level of his game.

Both teams are pretty bad. Both teams are very even. ISU had a great win today, and I personally hope they can some how get some momentum and confidence and use it in Big 12 play. I was impressed with how the Clones fed off the crowd today - they got momentum in the game it was just not possible for Iowa to really get into a rhythm after that.

Great win for ISU, it was a hard fought game on both sides! I think you play this game 10 times, and each team wins 5. A lot of young players, a lot of young talent, and it won't be long before the Iowa-ISU rivalry becomes big enough to actually mean something again.
