For me, the biggest thing today was the play of the guards. Not a lot of scoring, but did a much better job of getting the ball up the floor quickly and getting into the offense with plenty of time on the shot clock. They didn't do a whole lot wrong.

Garrett didn't really do much stastically on offense, but he didn't make mistakes and played very good defense. Our point guards combined for 6 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 0 turnovers.

To put that into perspective, against Drake they combined for 0 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 10 turnovers.

Yup, guard play was solid and we got a win. If we continue to play defense like that and eliminate mistakes on offense, we'll do ok this year. Not great or even good - but ok.

However, we still need to score better. Making the easy ones would help.

What was the halftime presentation?

They showed a highlight reel of the Iowa vs ISU football game and presented Gene Chizik with the Cy-Hawk Trophy. HUGE ovation once everyone saw Gene.

The scoring will come. Glad to see a fire in this team, I hope they play that hard all year. The 2 freshman that are playing are going to be special players.

There may have been some FB recruits at the game - I'm glad we were able to make a good showing (and win another super-bowl).

Yes, there were a bunch of recruits in for the game. They sat very close to me behind cyclone alley on the west side. They were there with Chizik and several of our coaches. The recruits appeared to be very impressed and a great time, except for one guy who wore a burnt orange jump suit, dark sunglasses, and had a Stevie Hicks hair cut - he just slept through most of the game, if that's possible. He looked like a Univ of Iowa gansta recruit.

Flag Guy, glad to see you running again this afternoon. Looked a little slower than usual but still glad to have you.

Pretty good game today. Everyone looked a lot better than they did against Drake. Hopefully we'll continue to see this improvement and more going forward.

I thought our guard play was excellent today. I still think when Jiri gets the ball low, he needs to be STRONG with the ball. He brings the ball down where the little ones can get to it and sometimes loses it. I liked his emotion out there, and we played excellent defense.

Hopefully Lucca's parents saw the "wir lieben Lucca" sign, I'm sure they think Lucca is in a great place here in Cyclone Country

Since we're up in the cheap seats, there are often visiting fans near us. It was funny watching the Hawk fans slump down in their seats.

I had my biggest pet peeve next to me: A loud Hawkeye fan wearing an Iowa State shirt. Seriously, if you support a team, show some pride and put on the right shirt.

I thought the key to our victory was the perimeter defense - we really pushed them further from the basket and we slid through and switched off sceens well. Iowa made a lot of treys vs UNI and I was concerned they would be that hot.

Also, at one point late in the game, Iowa was 2 for 3 from the FT line and we went to the line probably 20 times and made 73%

This was probably some of the two worst looking teams I've seen since the series resumed in the 70's. BIg 12 guards Chalmers, Robinson, Collins and Augustin are gonna eat our guards lunch.

The major thing that I say today was fight, fire, hustle. The clones were just more determined to get rebounds, loose balls, etc. Much better defense all the way around today too. Of course it helps when Iowa couldn't shoot. The hawks still had plenty of open, they didn't make them. Drake was making shots they had no business taking. Makes a big difference in how games play out.

It would be nice if somehow, someone in cardinal and gold would catch fire from the outside. It just feels like there has to be a shooter somewhere on this team.

It was great to see Garrett got 20 important minutes tonight, I would be surprised if they weren't working him into a starting role soon. I am sure that Sean Haluska is a nice guy, but he is not a Division 1 basketball player. With Diante getting more minutes and Wes playing more and more at the 2, Sean may not play much the rest of the year.

Peterson really impressed me tonight. He didn't dominate the game, but he played a lot better than he has this year when you look at the entire game and played well enough to win. It seemed like things started to click for him more than previous games.

I thought they played really hard today, and it should have been a blowout if the short ones were going in. Wesley looked like he was moving better out there, and with him at 75% or better, this team will be competitive. Iowa definitely missed Tony Freeman......they didn't look anything like they did against UNI.

Slower = less likely to run someone over = more likely that I don't get yelled at = I get to keep going.

Running fast is fun, but the first time I run someone over is the last time I'll ever be allowed to run...

Glad to see the crowd into the game today, though it felt a little weird to not have harassing chants (like for Piere Pierce) or booing everytime someone touched the ball (Huluska) like we have the last few years...

Oh well, "Kelly" made a good subsitute target

Winning was fun too :notworthy:
