Wilcke didn't make the trip. Some guys can wrestle hurt if the team needs them. For example, 133, 141, 174, 184 could have went the other way on paper. A hurt Holloway does not beat Colbray but maybe he keeps it to 3. Dresser has bigger fish to fry than questioning Brands's decision. BTW, didn't you guys just forfeit three matches in a row at 141? Were all the backups run off or was 7-11 only good for filling one weight? ;)

For those thinking that Dresser and co are the wrong choice, hang on a bit. He has a fixation with Iowa and Brands that is not a good look. They sound like jilted ex's. However, I think he and the staff will be fine in the long run. I've spoken with Tom at practice...haven't heard him say a bad word about those guys even if the same isn't reciprocated.

Why weigh in a hurt wrestler? We only have 141 lber after Storr left and that's Parker who had a minor knee surgery so we had no choice

If any one of those coaches could be coaching in IC right now, they would.

There are no backups at 141 that aren't redshirting. Storr left the team, or didn't you hear?

Overall a disappointing dual, but I still have faith we have the right staff in place. It takes a long time to break a lot of the habits these guys have developed and I think we will see a much better team take the mat next year. Simmons has all the talent in the world, but lacks consistency. That is where I think Austin Gomez will excel. He won't break like Simmons and will keep coming after you. Unless Carr is big enough to go at 165 next year, I think he will redshirt. I like Straw at 157 next year and a redshirt year could be good for Carr (unless of course he lights the world on fire and gets top 2-3 at Midlands). We desperately need a transfer at 165, or that will probably be a tough weight to watch again next year. Coleman will be an upgrade at 174, and I think he would've beat Gunther yesterday. Bush just has no offense at all other than funking a guy here and there. I wonder if Shapiro will be the guy at 184 next year. If not, I wonder if we'd be in the market for another transfer. The future is bright, it is kind of like watching the first year under Campbell. That 3-9 season wasn't fun, but you could see glimpses of brightness for the future. I have seen improvement from our wrestlers this year, and it will get better. 2019 recruiting class is off to a good start with Foca, hopefully we can get Cashman and a couple other top guys and continue to rebuild this program to where it should be.

Degen fought and showed well.

Wilcke didn't make the trip due to flu, Holloway weighed in but was injured. Dresser should focus on why his favored guys at 133 and 141 were so completely outworked instead of whining about Brands' lineup decisions.

Also a pretty crass move to denigrate his own guy at 125 who has probably worked his ass off in the room as someone they found at a 7-11.

Nobody gives a **** what your thoughts are. Brands is a chicken ****.

I have been a Dresser backer since before we hired him and I am firmly in his corner but I think he looks a little goofy going off about 197 after his team just got absolutely blasted on their home mat. So Brands had a guy weighed in that he was only going to use in an emergency and then didn't need to? Big deal. On the list of dumb things Brands does it doesn't even register.

This was a time to focus on us not lob empty grenades.

Good lord, the whining on here. Just be glad you got to leave the dual seven minutes earlier. Would watching Colbray get a 3-1 win over Iowa’s backup really have improved the experience for you? Nothing ISU did yesterday was worth watching, so why prolong the experience? Coach crying about how he only got 9 chances to prove his team wasn’t DOA instead of 10 is ridiculous. Remember that when we’re 9 years into the Dresser era and the results are the same as they were yesterday.

This meet was closer to the norm against Iowa than it was an outlier. Since 1980 we are 5-56 against Iowa and we've lost to them by an average of 15 points per dual. The close duals that everyone remembers are just the memorable ones, they weren't the norm.

In those 56 losses-
13 were by one match (6 points or less)
11 were by two matches (7-12 points)
14 were by three matches (13-18 points)
9 were by four matches (19-24 points)
9 were by five or more matches (24+)

Holy smokes. Figured the series would have been closer than that TBH. ISU for a long time was the second or third best wrestling team in the nation. Guess it goes to show you the domination Gable had on college wrestling back then.

Can you share what Zaddick said at Sukup?
i just think his passion and calling it like it is. His comments on the Wheaties box, calling out the team and Austin Gomez trotting up to grab it. Tom Brands not looking him in the eye during handshake...first shake since 2012......

We were out fought in every weight but 149. We need tougher and better talent. Some of that might be from guys working harder in the off season. No weight should be safe next year.

Iowa came to Hilton to shut us up and they did. Glynn, The Bull, Stoll were ruthless out there.

Agreed. Degen was bringing it, Sorensen is so damn tough. Parker had the gas tank to go but got outclassed on the feet. Straw hand fought good I thought also. The rest was domination.

Next year will be slightly better with Gomez and Coleman. They will take their lumps but are immediate improvements at 133 and 174.

125 will also be an improvement with Mackall.

We need someone to step up at 165 & 184. David Carr is going to redshirt. There is no reason to pull his redshirt, unless he proves he is a NCAA champ contender. But definitely not to just improve a weight.

I also agree with you on Straw. He wasn't backing up against Kemmerer

Yep I forgot about Mackall. At the moment, I still don't see many points at nationals, but it all depends on how the guys buy in during the off season really.
