Yep. Plus it seems like the agent didn't have an answer for teams who weren't sure if he should be a WR or a TE. Like, dude, what do you think your job is?

Does anyone have an answer for that? Not a single team felt he was worth drafting. He must be too slow to play X, but there's no film of him at TE. SINCE he didn't get drafted (I didn't feel this way before) I think he must be a project that no one wanted to take a chance on.

Prove them wrong AL

He ran a better 40 than expected though, so I didn't think that was going to be an issue. Maybe his separation just wasn't there on tape? I just don't get it.

The only thing that I can see is that he somehow looks awkward when running. It's not that smooth. However, the results are there and I thought the testing numbers would qualm those fears, apparently not.

I just can't get over him and Baker Mayfield with all kinds of TD's at the senior bowl. Mayfield goes number 1 overall and nobody even looks at Allen. Just stupid.

I don't have any insider info, but when teams have suspicions about a player's speed I wonder if a better than expected 40 time does much to sway their opinion. Lazard spent the better part of three months training almost exclusively for the combine tests, right? So just because he was a tick faster than expected all that really tells teams is that he put the work in on his sprint drills. It doesn't necessarily make him a better football player or faster in pads next fall.

I think it may have been a combination of things against him - like you said, a lack of separation on tape, a history of drops, he's kind of a tweener, and the fact that he maybe doesn't offer a lot of versatility as a special teams contributor.

Even with that taken into consideration, I was surprised at some of the names called instead of his on Day 2 and 3. I think he'll make it in the NFL just becasue of his sheer size and jump ball ability. He's a red zone threat for the team that figures out how to deploy him.

I believe Allen will end up playing and doing okay for himself.

It's just a shame that he didn't get the honor of being drafted. I mean, the talk on him all along was whether he should have gone to a "better program" to increase his potential. Hard not to imagine he'd have gotten drafted otherwise.

But I hope this truly end up being better for him in the long run. :)

David Boston, Brandon Marshall, Vincent Jackson, and Anquan Boldin would've been the list of players the agent should've been rattling off when there were questions about his size.

Lazard was also facing double teams his entire career at ISU, which makes it tough to get separation. Something tells me he won't be doubled and he'll be able to chuck a 190lb corner to gain seperation in the NFL.

When I saw this I was contemplating choosing another team. It would have been awesome to see AL as a 9er

Samesies.

There was also a LSU guy that had like 385 career receiving yards that was drafted. Pretty surreal to see. I've seen a couple lists where Lazard was the 3 best guy not drafted, which sucks to see.

So a poor choice of agent on Allen's part may set Iowa State back in recruiting another year? I mean at some point a top 500 player in the 247 composite will look at Iowa State and see it's been 5 years since we had a player DRAFTED! This stinks...

Some of you need to chill out. Campbell will be fine getting players here.

Honestly, I don’t give a **** about Iowa state in this case. Lazard picked Iowa State even though he had “better” options. It sucks for him.

If it hasn't hurt recruiting the last couple years I don't know why it would now.

This sucks for Allen Lazard. As to the future of the program, it doesn't change anything one way or the other.

You know what will get us more recruits? Winning games. You know what will land us more draft picks? Winning games.

Just keep winning. That's all it takes.

LOL. After the 1st three rounds? Maybe the 7th round at best. Check out the signing bonuses and total contract values for players picked in the 4th round.

Good post. This is the easy response to whether you'd rather get drafted or not. Money, plus you know the team had interest enough in you to use the pick. UFA's are a little bit of a dime a dozen, in that teams bring a lot of them in and very few make it. I tried to find out if this is still a good number, but I know that 10 years ago, there were about 50 guys/year that went undrafted and made a 53 man roster. I 100% believe AL will make it on a team, but certainly you'd rather be drafted, even in the end of the last round.

In running for meltdown post of the year I think.

KO was taken in the 2nd round after being on a team that made waves by beating #2 late in the season.

Didn't seem to help with recruiting.
