I've learned to mostly ignore rating services and pay attention to offers instead. He had a solid list (Michigan St, Rutgers, Louisville, Pitt, UCF, Kentucky) indicative of a guy who didn't receive much exposure for whatever reason.

Beats the hell out of Rhoads recruiting where we were beating out MAC schools most of the time.
Rhoads was definitely a recruit the leftovers from Texas and Florida.

I seem to remember that Milton was a VERY late signee...like after NSD. He had been committed for awhile, but didn't sign right away. I think that there were some grades issues that needed to be worked out over the spring and that's why a lot of those offers probably weren't committable by the time signing day hit.

That's probably true. But it raises one question, what the heck are the recruiting ratings using if P5 offers and quality are not a part of the rating?
The recruiting services are only able to evaluate the kids within proximity of the very best recruits. So Texas and SEC country kids get a lot of exposure, while kids from the rust belt and great plains states may never get a real look by an evaluator. These kids' reputation has to spread by word of mouth as programs look at each others' offer list. It's a major inefficiency in the "market" that I think someone like Campbell is poised to exploit by being a kid's first D1/P5 offer.

Glad to see Mike Rose's name mentioned. I thought his high school highlight videos were some of the best I saw, and he has good size already for a FR linebacker at 6'3" 210 lbs. He'll probably be like 6'3" 235 lbs in a couple years.

Not sure on Lensing.

Foster didn't grade out very well last year. A lot of development to do, which is normal. Remember he's still young. Don't think it is doghouse, grades or effort. He's currently behind two guys in Good-Jones and Meeker who have played a lot more than him.
I’ve said since I saw Foster at our camps that he had a LONG way to go.

I thought McMillen was the clear #2 at MLB?

It sounded early in practice like they Vance and Northrup were the 3rd and 4th best LBs, and Northrup or one of Spears/Harvey would play MLB to get the best players on the field.

With a good staff many P5 programs would do well if just getting the best of the MAC imo. Add in some guys that have a lot of P5 offers and CMC will bring Iowa St to a new level.

This is What I am thinking. The competition is for the 3rd linebacker and not the MLB spot.

Foster has a long way to go with technique and between the ears, per a guy from the staff.

The fact that he saw that much time last year is pretty telling on how far down the OL numbers had gotten when CMC was hired. There are only 2 seniors on the OL, Oge and Windham, neither of which is a starter. That is pretty telling in terms of OL struggles in general.

12 of the 20 are FR or RS FR, so hopefully ISU is well stocked for the next couple years.

Bummer about Northrup. He started as a freshman on a terrible team. Still played quite a bit the past two years but now buried on the depth chart as a SR.

Foster was a liability last season. I'll be nice but I bitched about him a ton. Needs to get off the damn ball and move his feet-- both in pass pro and run blocking. Looked like a RFR that was forced into action before he was ready and that's not fair to him. Hoping he's been displaced and not benched

Define “buried”. I betcha he winds up being the effective backup at at least two spots, and gets plenty of snaps,

I think the ranking had much more to do with no one expecting him to qualify. There was a reason his signing wasn’t announced until he got his academics in order.

I can remember a few years ago when ISU didn't even have many more than 6 LBers.
I can remember years under Mac that we barely had three. No way he was going to put anyone else one the field.

Pardon me, I’m going to have to go watch Rose’s high school film...
