I'm sorry to say it, but there needs to be some questions on Herman as OC

Either
a) You know nothing about football or
b) you didn't watch that replay

There is NO way you could've watched that replay and figured that the offensive line was doing a quality job. None. They were AWFUL. Receivers were still jogging routes and not making any attempt to get separation (any receiver not named Lenz was guilty of this multiple times).

What, specifically, did the OL do (or fail to do) that made their performance awful?

UNI rushes 3 down lineman + 1 linebacker and gets into Jantz' face multiple times when we had the 5 linemen and a running back. There were a few times Jantz stepped up and/or took off too soon, but I can't blame him when he was constantly getting pressure in his face.

Boothby was getting doubled and still getting the best of the interior linemen.

There were rarely holes for running backs to go through. White? broke one off for 20 yards or so but other than Jantz scrambling, there were no holes for the running backs. Unless we can run the ball, we're going to struggle.

Neither line played well at all. UNI dominated the trenches.

We are now off and running in year 3. So far, the defense has seemed to exceed my expectations. The offense looks to be on its way to coming up short of expectations again. That doesn't seem to be a simple coincidence.

Hmmm, you might have a point there.

Hey--it couldn't have had anything to do with the fact that there was more talent on defense than offense, could it???? :spinny:

Our play book is very limited under Herman, you have to just open it up and take what it brings you , being safe all the time doesn't work for any one

Hey, could it be that I am comparing on field performance to pre-season expectations and that those expectations would account for difference in talent between the units?

Every year there is all kinds of hype around our offense, every year they fall flat. We scored 20 points against the biggest cupcake on our schedule, and we didn't make it look easy. Maybe they will prove me wrong this week, but I'm going to predict another embarrassing offensive effort against the hawks this year.

Typical.

If the "safe stuff" can't be properly executed, then the non-safe stuff definitely won't work.

People that do not understand the fundamentals are the last people that should in any way, shape or form be commenting on what the coahces are or are not doing.

The receivers and the overall development of them worry me.

This. I do think the offense is fine. Herman is fine. I feel Rhoads needs to find a new WR coach if they can't produce this year.

That's illogical. The WR coach is in his first year in that position after 2 successful years as the TE coach. He has a good track record here thus far.

The WRs have been consistent, and Herman has been in the same position. It's certainly fair to doubt the WR talent, and possibly to consider that Wells did all a person could do with that group. If we're considering things based on tenure, one has to consider Herman well before going after the WR coach this year.
