Not really. It is about taking a step back and analyzing the teams. Some of it also has to do with a difference in where people put value on aspects of a season. Many put almost all focus on postseason results. IMO that is misguided and prone to overreactions.
If we look back to Prohms tenure at Murray State it really isn’t as impressive as many treat it. He had the one year but he was also at the clear Gonzaga of the OVC and had multiple NBA PGs. When he got here he had two of the most talented teams in program history. He did achieve what he needed to but a sweet sixteen and a Big 12 tournament title isn’t overachieving by any means. Last year was a tough spot with the recruiting issues so that is a pass. This year should minimum be a tournament team and it has potential to be back to a special team. He deserves credit for this year because he has done a great job.
The issue is people have said he could miss the tournament this year and next year and still not be on the hot seat. That is BS. Let’s take a reasoned analysis of his tenure. No more overreactions.
That is a bit of hyperbole. Who has said this? Because I do not feel this way. If ISU misses this year the seat is definitely warming IMHO. But let's give credit where credit is due at this point in time.
Again, this year is really the proving year for Prohm, but at this point I give him the benefit of the doubt. Prohm's tenure at Murray St. actually is pretty solid when you consider his ability of identify and coach talent.
While the 2016 and 2017 ISU teams had many talented players, it was still a roster of quirky pieces. Lots of shooting, but not much rebounding or defense. I actually think Prohm's coaching job those years is underrated when you consider the roster pieces he was able to fit together, and navigate some of the player attitude and ego issues.
