Not really. It is about taking a step back and analyzing the teams. Some of it also has to do with a difference in where people put value on aspects of a season. Many put almost all focus on postseason results. IMO that is misguided and prone to overreactions.

If we look back to Prohms tenure at Murray State it really isn’t as impressive as many treat it. He had the one year but he was also at the clear Gonzaga of the OVC and had multiple NBA PGs. When he got here he had two of the most talented teams in program history. He did achieve what he needed to but a sweet sixteen and a Big 12 tournament title isn’t overachieving by any means. Last year was a tough spot with the recruiting issues so that is a pass. This year should minimum be a tournament team and it has potential to be back to a special team. He deserves credit for this year because he has done a great job.

The issue is people have said he could miss the tournament this year and next year and still not be on the hot seat. That is BS. Let’s take a reasoned analysis of his tenure. No more overreactions.

That is a bit of hyperbole. Who has said this? Because I do not feel this way. If ISU misses this year the seat is definitely warming IMHO. But let's give credit where credit is due at this point in time.

Again, this year is really the proving year for Prohm, but at this point I give him the benefit of the doubt. Prohm's tenure at Murray St. actually is pretty solid when you consider his ability of identify and coach talent.

While the 2016 and 2017 ISU teams had many talented players, it was still a roster of quirky pieces. Lots of shooting, but not much rebounding or defense. I actually think Prohm's coaching job those years is underrated when you consider the roster pieces he was able to fit together, and navigate some of the player attitude and ego issues.

Fred's dream job was always going to the NBA and yes he thought he could succeed in Chicago
I do believe that NBA was his dream, but he foolishly overestimated Bulls players and ownership. It's like he wanted the NBA so bad that it didn't matter what kind of a situation he was getting himself into. And now he failed at his dream, but he got the cash.

Of course, Paxson says Gar's job is safe. Good lord. Paxson also said they plan on keeping Boylan as their coach for next year as well (obviously because they don't want to pay anyone else).

He went to the NBA thinking he'd have a healthy D Rose, Joakim Noah, a superstar in Butler and Pau Gasol. I'm sure GarPax sold him the situation was much better than it was since that locker room was a nightmare

Rose, Noah, and Gasol were all question marks at the time. That's too many question marks to make such a big decision. He gambled and he lost. Comes off a bit naive. I hope he can turn it around somewhere else so that his last coaching legacy is not a failure.

Not this year, Prohm has finally put together a roster that can compete for a Big 12 championship and you can see the talent level on this years team. That being said we've had 3 straight years of underwhelming basketball.

Aaannd you are the winner of the ******** of the Week Award.

What level of stupidity does it take to claim that a 3 year run with a Big 12 Conference title and trip to 2nd Round of NCAA is underwhelming?

You even get it correct but aren't sharp enough to notice in your opening line - Prohm has put together in 3 years a roster than can compete for Big XII title. How long did it take CFH? HMMM?

I’m not going to go back and find the post but it was in one of these threads. I think to often people see criticism of Prohm as wanting him immediately fired and rehiring Fred. I also think some of the praise he gets is seen as disrespecting Fred and crowning him as our savior. Neither is really true. I know I fall into reading to much into what people say sometimes. I also know when I’ve wanted to debate issues with Prohm it is just brushed aside as hating on him. I think he is a good coach who looks like he is finally getting his program established. There are still issues but I think if we succeed this year they will be overlooked.

Assuming Fred also know that the year was 2015 and not 2011 that's the exact reason you stay away from that job. An injured Rose, old Noah and Gasol and a headcase wannabe superastar.

3 Year run? It was only 2 years. Those 2 years were par for the course, anybody on this board could have coached them with the talent Hoiberg left. Had Prohm missed the tournament in 16 and 17 he wouldnt even be coaching here right now.

ARE YOU ******* DRUNK!?!?! HE WON THE BIG 12 TOURNAMENT IN 2017 AND WON A GAME IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT. ONLY 3 COACHES IN IOWA STATE HISTORY HAVE BEEN TO MORE NCAA TOURNAMENTS THAN STEVE. HE'LL TIE TIM FLOYD THIS YEAR. STOP WITH THE MADNESS.

Relax man, we beat Nevada, Little Rock an Iona. I stand by my underwhelming statement. The Big 12 tournament championship was definitely his defining moment so far so Ill give him credit for that.

Fred was a below average NBA coach.
He had below average players. Some with below average attitudes. If players gonna get all the glory...better be able to take the criticism when it's offered too.
