Assuming Fred also know that the year was 2015 and not 2011 that's the exact reason you stay away from that job. An injured Rose, old Noah and Gasol and a headcase wannabe superastar.

FWIW I don't think it was a smart decision at all but he went into it thinking he could compete for championships

Some people need reminded what he did for ISU basketball and how he left the program in a good place for Prohm which Prohm looks to be continuing from the look of this year.

Starting with the 2001-2002 season until Fred Hoiberg was hired, ISU was a combined 143-140 overall and 49-95 in conference. They had only 1 NCAA tournament appearance during that time and only one year with a conference record above .500.

Since Hoiberg came to Iowa State. 181-98 in the regular season. 75-67 in conference. 6 NCAA tournament appearances. 2 Sweet Sixteens. 3 Big 12 conference tournament champions.

Relax man, we beat Nevada, Little Rock an Iona. I stand by my underwhelming statement. The Big 12 tournament championship was definitely his defining moment so far so Ill give him credit for that.

There's two time of dumb people. The ones that just don't know any better or the ones that are so dumb they think a Sweet 16 in CBB is "underwhelming"

It’s media members far more connected than any of us saying he’ll be back in college coaching. I’m an idiot fan, but it’s not like I’m the only one thinking this.
You got the idiot part right...

And a sweet 16 that could have been an elite 8 or better if Georges doesn't get called for a terrible foul late in the game against Virginia.

3 Year run? It was only 2 years. Those 2 years were par for the course, anybody on this board could have coached them with the talent Hoiberg left. Had Prohm missed the tournament in 16 and 17 he wouldnt even be coaching here right now.

This is just not true. There are plenty of coaches that could have screwed that up. Do I think Prohm was perfect in this first couple years? No. But he was pretty good.

Hell hoiberg had a better roster in 2015 and UAB happened.

The coat flip, hands on the hips move Hoiberg makes when Lavine waves off Carter is fantastic.

Down 1, fire up a 25' fall away 3-pointer. I probalby would've had Lavine checked for a learning disability after the game.

I think Simmons & Russillo were making fun of Lavine for that one earlier this week.

That was 2016. Steve has won 3 NCAA Tournament games in 3 years.

Fred won 4 in 4 years.

Fred won 2 Big 12 Tourney Titles

Steve has won 1 Big 12 Tourney Titles.

Brilliant. So - if our coach, who won a conference tourney and 2nd Round of NCAA, wouldn't have done that we wouldn't have been has happy with him? That is some pretty heady stuff.

If Fred hadn't made NCAAs or won Big XII tourney, he would of been fired.

Was the talent we had last year more a result of Prohm recruiting or Hoiberg recruiting (or not recruiting).

Prohm has some boxes to check yet but at same points in their careers, CSP is at least as good of college Bball coach as CFH. If the order was reversed, it probably wouldn't have worked. CFH did something unique to restoke the fires of ISU MBB. I think his timing was impeccable but it wasn't meant to be a long term thing on several levels.

Sorry, but if he ends up back in college that is the death of "The Mayor" to me. I can buy the arguments around hating recruiting, or chasing the NBA dream, but if he bounces back to college now it really looks like he used ISU as a stepping stone (and maybe the Bulls as a quick payday and a transition plan from ISU to another college). It doesn't take away from his accomplishments here, and from a business perspective it isn't wrong, but it isn't the type of action I would expect from someone that you would put on an Iowa State Mount Rushmore. For that reason, I really hope he ends up back in an NBA front office.

You can't be serious, we were never in that game at all. Go look at the play by play, we had to have trailed by double digits 35 minutes that game. We were completely overmatched.

Because of Jamie Pollard, Hoiberg was able to get to the NBA. So now he's done both. Never has to work again. Perhaps a front office job again. Glad we have coach Prohm.

Last years team was a combination of bad recruiting by both Hoiberg and Prohm.

You guys seem to be missing the point. What Prohm did was fine and dandy in 16 and 17, but those were teams with alot of talent, especially the 2016 Niang team. Had he not gotten those teams to the tourney it would have been a horrible coaching job.

For the record, Im all on the Prohm train this year, I like the makeup of this roster and you can already see the talent is finally there to get back to the level Hoiberg had us at.

I’m going to tell you right now we have this hard working, hustling, Workman like teamtbis year and if they get in to the tourney they can get upset just as easily as the 14-15 team did.

No doubt. Upsets happen. But to act like prohm did nothing in years 1-2 is silly.

Why did I know this would degenerate into another Hoiberg versus Prohm war of attrition. I can see it last year when the team was bad and we had very little to look forward to, but come on, we are about to play tonight and have a good team again!
