They should just switch to the Cleveland Spiders already.

Yeah, overdue. I think teams honoring Native Americans through names or logos is fine (but it's really not my place to say) if done respectfully (and with the support of that community in general).

Agreed, although it seems like there will always be room for interpretation to whether or not something is being honored or if something is racist. If it's a judgment call, I'm ok with erring on the side of caution and removing/replacing it. It's not like there are not other options to name a sports team.

I find it more funny that people are upset about the elimination of some cartoon mascot enough to argue with the people that are calling it racist. It's not like people are just arbitrarily picking a random mascot to change. There's a reason it's upsetting to people.

Time to do away with all team names and logos, just go to the name of city or state. Cleveland baseball team that sounds great...
This will eliminate anyone getting offended, and we can stop having debates over names, logos, and other political issues.

I think this would have had a much better reception had some groups not taken as extreme stances on other issues. I think the insistence that Native American mascots/names couldn’t be used at all by a small group has made changes and working together difficult.

Its amazing how bent out of shape some people get over racist mascots, as if retiring Chief Wahoo is going to personally affect their lives.

Way up there
Tbh if i had my way, they wouldn't change the logo but I get why they would. Either way, my life isn't impacted, in a few years, this will be forgotten. Just a heads up to the Indians, steer clear of whomever designed the upside down poop emoji we got stuck with.

I'm with you, I don't get the big fuss about it (except maybe Redskins), but if people are offended I guess do it.

Only a matter of time until PETA gets involved with animal mascots.
