not to derail thread but what did you serve Carvers?

We just did pizza, cake, and relish tray for college one and are doing walking tacos/nacho bar and cake for high school one. But I was actually helping a friend for a high school one and making cake balls when I heard Murphy blabbering.

No way he is a first round pick. But I hope I am wrong. It would be nice to have him be drafted period, but at the same time a lot of people think its almost better to go undrafted than to be drafted in the second round.

Agree. Can get a better fit as free agent than going in second round and getting shuffled off to Europe anyway.

I've heard this is how it often happens, but can someone tell me 'why'? I mean, can't an undrafted free agent not make a team also, and go off to Europe too? Or, lets say a player gets drafted by a team in the 2nd round and they don't make their roster. Can't that player still tryout or be picked up by other teams after being seen in the summer league, or are they off limits and property of only the team that drafted them? That almost makes the second round of the draft almost meaningless, if free agents make it to a team yet their 2nd round draft choice didn't. Sorry, I don't get NBA or NFL rules.

Everybody around here seems to have in their head it's better to go undrafted and pick your own team as opposed to getting drafted in the second round, but I just don't see it. Statistically, you're much more likely to stick on a roster if you're drafted.

I agree. Getting drafted in the second round is a good thing, and shows a team at least has some interest in you. No guaranteed contracts, but as an undrafted FA you are in a pool with tons of people, and as someone has mentioned on here before, you have no ego from a GM invested either.

The main reason is schedule. Teams settle their contracts at the same time. A player would have to be cut extremely early to still have enough time to be evaluated by another team. That would be extremely unusual. In general, teams draft/invite over the number of open spots on their team and then evaluate through summer league and pre-season and make the final cuts just prior to the start of regular season.

NBA Roster limited to 15 (20 during pre-season) with a minimum of 13
Only 12 or 13 can be on the active list (suit up)
Rosters are set for opening day around the end of October

I love Johnny but this has never made any sense to me. Niang doesn't play without shoes but neither does anyone else. It's a relative measurement either way.

Point is the with shoes measurement matters more because if you play with shoes that ad 1 inch vs. .25 inches the guy with the 1 inch shoes is taller when they play. Look at all the differentials between with and w/o shoes. The range is bigger than I would expect.

The general basis behind that philosophy is that they player is already drawing attention and interest from several teams. That allows the player + agent some flexibility to choose the best fit. Late 2nd round draft selections may be throw away picks for some teams with those players having zero chance of making the roster.

But the numbers say different. The numbers say you're significantly more likely to make a roster as "throwaway draft pick."

The number of second round draft picks on rosters compared to undrafted free agents would agree.

The thing about Cyclones lately is that it doesn't matter if your drafted first, second, or undrafted free agent. Your shot at success in the NBA goes through a very small window. Our last two first rounders (Brackins, White) have played less NBA minutes than our recent 2nd rounders (Blalock, Taylor) and our UFA'S (Babb, Garrett). None have really been relevant in the NBA since Tinsley. Even our one lottery pick-Fizer- was a bust. Long point I'm trying to make is, I'm much less concerned with where Georges lands in the draft than I am about him just making the most of his shot when, not if IMO, he gets it

none of that is really relevant here.

Nice work. Never would have thought to check out the difference in shoes.
