Anybody know if any bars in the local area of Ames do a fish fry special? I'm certainly not thinking Welch Ave bars or anything, but neighboring towns maybe?

I do enjoy a fish fry. When I lived in Ames, I know St Cecilia used to do one. Not sure if they still do.

Anyone know of any in or around Ankeny?

As of last year St Cecilia still did theirs. I believe they alternate weeks with St. Thomas Aquinas, but I could be wrong. It was one of, if not the best in town IMO.

I went to St. Cecelia's fry one time, and they said they were out of fish. I was all like...Cecelia, you're breaking my heart, you're shaking my confidence daily.

As for us, we sent the kids to Gma and Gpa's house this weekend so we could get some stuff done around the house. We hit the town fish fry right at 5 PM so we could get stuff done after...it was us (30 somethings) and the blue hairs.

I feel like you're alright. This reference I like it.

The Knights of Columbus at St. Marys in Elkhart is the best in the Ankeny area. They do a fish fry every other Friday. Started this Friday. Food is served around 6:45pm. They also do Stations of the Cross starting at 6:00 (??)

The American Legion in Polk City. $8 all you can eat fish, fries, cole slaw, baked potatoes, and bread. They have a bar if you want any adult beverages and bingo starts when the eating ends around 7 or 7:30. They do it every Friday from now until Easter except for Good Friday. It's good for an adults-only group but also family friendly if you have kids.

If anyone happens to find themselves in Milwaukee...

Beer Hall | Lakefront Brewery

It's kind of a big deal...we tried to go, ended up skipping because no parking and large crowd+2 small kids...

Went there a few weeks ago, not for a fish fry, but for the brewery tour. Awesome experience, had a lot of fun in the beer hall sampling new brews.
