I've always wondered this about morning shows:
Who's the target audience?
We usually have NBC (local news and Today Show) in the background for the hour/45 minutes as we get ready in the morning but we aren't really "watching".

Do any of you get up specifically to watch morning shows?

People are slowly not tuning into ESPN. It’s not surprising the ratings weren’t good. I will only tune into to ESPN if a game is on. The rest of the network has turned into compete trash.

Is there really much other reason to tune into espn?

We live in an era where you can hit up all the highlights online quicker than waiting for them to come up on ESPN.

There really isnt much for great options for ESPN to fill the time during the daytime hours, if they don't have a game to fill the time with. Everything else is always going to be filler at the lowest rate possible.

They seem to have no direction or vision for the show. Not to mention they moved golic and wingo to a broom closet and blew the budget for Greeny new set. The guy who replaced Russillo/Kanell blows as well.

They need to get back to their roots and show fun niche sports during the day, championship mini golf or competitive trampoline dodge ball for example.

Except ESPN didn't go low rate...they dropped some big money on this show! Almost $15 million just for the hosts.

Now days I just have CBS or NBC on in the morning to catch headlines and the weather. In the past I had ESPN on to catch a few highlights. Yes it might be quicker to check online, but in the morning that's not my priority. I miss the old Sportcenter, and a ticker that just showed scores, not every stat for every player, followed by a promo.

Yep. It's kind of like MTV. I couldn't even tell you what's on that channel anymore. It isn't music videos, so I don't care.

ESPN's politics don't particularly matter to me either. I just find their personalities to be super annoying. I think those shows should be ESPN3, and the actual softball games that I want to watch, that are only on ESPN3, should be lined up for 24 hours on tape delay, on the real channels.

Well that seems like a poor decision.

My only thought there is theyre hoping that the morning show might be the only hours they can actually sell highlights- get the people who went to bed before the games ended.

How long does Disney allow ESPN to continue to set money on fire? It seems like it's been some time since any sound management decisions have been made there.

I watched about 5 minutes this morning and turned it off. I've always found Greeny annoying. Rose is ok, and Beadle and McFarland don't do much for me. It's such a tired retread. I will watch a sporting event and occasionally check out SVP. Otherwise ESPN is trash.

The only thing I watch on ESPN anymore is the 30 for 30 programs. Those are definitely quality shows. But the rest of the network is second rate.

That's right! I forgot about the 30 for 30s. A lot of those are just riveting. They usually manage to pique my interest for something in which I normally would NEVER be interested. There was one recently, about the Catholics vs Convicts, that I thought was great.

Their radio lineup is a disaster. The only national show I really seek out anymore is Gottlieb's, which is actually pretty decent. They advertised Greenberg's new show originally as going more with a political slant (in spite of the backlash they'd already received for their politics), then after taking a beating over that on social media went with "Well, only when sports and politics intersect will we broach the subject".

I have no idea why ESPN keeps wanting to go political on everyone. There are enough news channels that do that. If that is what we want we would go watch them. We want sports. We want goofy anchors. For some reason they decided that sports are soooo serious. I used to not miss sportcenter. Now I care less. I log onto the internet to get the scores. Only reason I watch ESPN is if a game is on TV.
