If I remember correctly, this was a kid who committed without ever visiting Ames. I always got the feeling that we were his first BCS offer and he did not want to pass it up. He is probably getting feelers from other schools and realizing that there is a big world out there and a lot of other programs that may be interested in him.

I'll be alright if we can get this kid. Runs a 4.5 and plays DE

Antonio Felder - Football Recruiting

And we're in the lead with him

Only drawback though is he's a Juco. I'd like to steer clear of the Juco route as much as possible and bring in guys that can play 4 years. Not saying sign zero jucos but we signed 13 this time around, that number this time around better be half that or less. We hear what a good recruiter Chizik is so I'd sure hope he can do better than having to rely on jucos all the time.

Limiting the recruitment of JC players is pure folly for a program like ours. If the coaches exercise due dilligence and bring in the right guys, JCs can be a huge part of our recruiting. Out of all the JCs how many didn't make it to Ames in this class? None. All made it to campus(with McMahon washing out). We have some coaches on staff with ties to the best JCs in the country. JCs should be an intergral part of our recruiting.

Again, I'm not saying we shouldn't recruit them at all, I just don't want to see nearly 10 signed a year. You only get 2 years out of them compared to 4 out of a good HS recruit. Jucos are good short term solutions to fill holes but we shouldn't rely on them to be our make or break recruits. Most of our O-Line are Jucos this year, I surely hope this next class has some HS kids coming in that we can plug into the spots after we basically lose the whole line again in 2 years.

That is just one year. How many times have all JUCOs made it to campus in the past? Not many. Personally I would rather give a high school kid a scholarship than chance a JUCO making it to campus. But I do think there should be a JUCO or 2 per class if the coaching staff thinks they are true players.

I was a little concerned when Ellington and the WR Supo Sanni we are recruiting from the same high school were suppose to come to Ames on an unofficial visit a few weekends ago and were a no show. I think Supo is submarining us. I like the build on Ellington, lets hope we can get him back.

No one is "signed" for '08. Everything is a verbal at this point. Recruits can't sign until February signing period!!

Can anyone recall the name of any player who officially opened up recruting to end up committing at the same school?

Without a coaching change of course.

It's too early to say with certainty, but I haven't been blown away with Chizik's recruiting abilities so far.
