I grew up in Ames with a ISU professor as a father and the family had season tickets in the parquet. It's fair to say that I am more passionate about ISU basketball than any other team or sport around.
Last year when the pandemic changed everything it also changed my work schedule, and I was moved to a weekend shift where I get my 40+ hours Saturdays through Monday nights. Naturally this has made watching basketball on the weekends quite difficult, but even last season at this time I would often structure my weekend plans around being able to watch Cyclone basketball. I have my DVR set up to automatically record the games, but I also see no use in watching a game that I know we have lost, so I'll just erase those recordings. If a game is being played on a weekday night I'll at least start watching; I watched the whole TCU game a couple of weeks ago.
But as others have said, this team just makes me sad and frustrated. I was actually at home on the weekend of the Mississippi State game due to a positive Covid test (thankfully I was asymptomatic the whole time), and I had to turn if off within the first ten minutes.
If we get a new coach (which I expect we will), I think I might go ahead and pony up for an ESPN+ subscription. Naturally I always want us to win, but I'm okay watching competitive basketball if we lose. This year we just keep on getting blown out, so I can't even hope for the competitive factor.
