Didn't Slice (don't even know his real name) from UK getting hired by St. John's for some huge amount? $500 k or something?

I'm ok with Otz, but I'd feel even better if he had spent the last 2 yrs under Fred and not Romar.
Yeah why hire an assistant from a so-so team. the reasons not to hire Otz just keep piling up.

the two years that Otz was at Washington about 90% of the recruits he brought in were from Washington. If The state of Iowa had that kind of talent our program would be just fine no matter who the hell was coaching here. The two seasons he coached there the team was not good to put it nicely and that's what is concerning to me...

The person mentioned earlier here, who I think could keep everything going in the right direction is Krystowiak.
Qualifications:
NBA Player
NBA coaching experience
Got to the second round with Montana in the Tourney
Got to the Elite 8 in his second year in Utah, and they SUCKED bad prior to him getting the job. He does have western roots, but if he would be happy here, he could crush!

Utah went 15-18 in his second year and definitely did not make the elite eight.

What recruits that TJ brought to ISU were from Iowa anyway?

Whoever the next coach is, they should spend some bucks and poach one of Michigan or MSU's top recruiters.

Or the best recruiter of Texas they can find; state has a lot of talent and Baylor is the most established program ATM. It's possible Smart struggles.

I don't see TJ's time at UW adding any value, specifically if he was not wanting to take UW transfers, but it also isn't really a concern. UW's lack of success is on Romar, not TJ.

Did anyone hear Mike Hlas of the CR Gazette on Iowa Public Radio today? I believe he said he thought the new coach would be announced next week and would not be a mid-major head coach. My interpretation of his comments is he expects a head coach from a major conference. Hoping someone else was listening and can verify.

while I don't mind Hlas, I sincerely doubt he has many connections inside the program. If you don't see it from CW or Travis Hines, don't believe it.

I don't see it being any of the 3 mid major coaches. It'll either be TJ or mystery candidate.

Won't happen at Michigan. Jordan is thought to be the next head guy, Alexander is a Michigan lifer and Meyer is looking for the right head job. I don't know about MSU.

There really should be a pretty solid candidate list.

How many times in the last 10 years has there been a HC opening for a (likely) pre-season top 10 team? Not many I'd guess.

So why aren't people pushing for cornel Mann to be HC then? He's been here as long, been with Fred longer, been on Fred winning teams, recruited MM...coached at Dayton..then coached at W.Michigan for 5 years. Has been with teams to multiple and multiple NIT and NCAA tourney appearances. Heck Mann is more qualified.

He brought people into a program that really stunk and made the elite 8. If he is not a great recruiter, then he must be a heck of a coach.
I was being sarcastic. He's a hell of a coach. I'm just joking because people think T.J. is better than all these guys because he was our top recruiter.

Is that who you are pushing for?

It seems that you are simply obsessed with pushing for "anybody but Otzelberger". Did Allison Lacey dump you for Otz?
